I am new to Yamaha sledding scene. I have been doing alot of reading on here about nagging problems with the suspensions, exhaust gaskets, wheels etc. From what I am seeing it is on the 06-07 and maybe 08. Are these problems also with the 09 sleds. I bought a 09 leftover at the end of last year and I havent been able to ride it yet as mother nature hasen't blessed us with any snow yet. If they are then I will start picking up some replacement parts now so I wont have any down time during our short riding season here on the East Coast. Any help would be appreciated.

Does the 09 sleds require the YamahaHeater or are the stock warmers OK on the 09's?

Thanks
Matt

I have an 07 and have NO problems with the handwarmers, i have found if you ride it at a constant speed, they work to the point where you have to turn them down to half way. If you are on and off the brake and throttle they don't seem to work as well, give them a try! Gloves make a big difference too, don't get them too bulky. I rode Friday in sub-zero weather (my first ride of the season) and had NO problems with the warmers.
ride on and enjoy that perma-grin :jump:

09 Ltx Gt, hand warmers are not good so I ordered the Yammaheaters! My friend has 2010 Vector GT and the hand warmers were great! I have heard that the so called fix from Yamaha that they came out with this year is still NOT good? From what I hear the Yammaheaters are the way to go?

I feel my 09 suspension needs nothing so far, I just picked it up in September and I have 700 miles on it so far.

X2 - the handwarmers on my '08 work fine. Try them out before you spend money to upgrade something you don't need.

3,000 miles on my '08 and zero issues except I did put in new style idler wheels with replaceable bearings for the start of this season. Originals were starting to go plus I liked the looks of the spoke style. Ride with a light pair of gloves and hands are nice and warm.

confirmation

"consistent RPMS" , this is the key to the hand warmers getting warm and staying warm! If your on and off the throttle a lot they don't work! If your riding for a mile or more with a consistent throttle wether it's varying from 20 to 50 MPH they work fine as long as you don't completely drop the throttle. The advantage to the Yamaha heater and the older version Yamaha had was they stay hot regardless of throttle consistency.
Your riding technique and habits will dictate if their sufficient for you! I would suggest foaming the inside of the bars with expanding foam and hand guards this helped mine out a little and I would do it again. ;)!

Mine is the '07 Apex GT.
Dont bother reading too much here. I bought mine in a year when we didn't get any snow until the end of January, so I sat on here and read stuff until I was ready to take the bridge! I was convinced that the thing was going to fall apart as soon as it hit snow. The machine has some things that need to be addressed, but they have occurred 1 at a time. Not a massive dump of problems all at once. Every sled I have ever owned has had different issues and needed different remedies to recurring problems, but this one has had the fewest. And I have owned all brands. The thing with this machine is that with normal maintenance it has been the one machine that has had ZERO down time and going into it's fourth season, and I have total confidence in it heading into this season. Only one other sled I have owned made it to a 3rd, and I was super uneasy about it, but finances forced me to do it!

My warmers were not adequate, and with the help of some guys here, that is no longer an issue and I have had idler issues, and I had to invest in suspension parts to eliminate bottoming, but all in all, after 3 years I really love this sled. So much so that when I get a new sled I am keeping this one and trading in the wife's. I'd rather have this one around. I got it just the way I like it!!!

Ya, I agree... These are the most trouble free sleds on the market. Just ride it and see what you think it needs. If you got the updated monoshock II rear suspension you are set... Just ride

I rode mine 100 miles the other day and found the hand warmers to be non existant but like was mentioned here. I am on and off the throttle constantly ( I am coming from 2 stroke twins so its a hard habbit to break)...

If I ride really slow at constant rpm (Like mentioned above) or even kinda fast down the lake... my warmers have to turned down, they get really hot... But on the trails when Im on and off the throttle.... They suck...

Thanks for all the information. What is the difference between the Monoshock and the Monoshock II suspensions? Excuse me for my ignorance I am still learning about these Yamaha sleds. Polaris for 8 years.

The main thing is the original monoshock had some issues. Like mentioned above, the front "W" arm is very prone to breaking, The rails crack for various reasons, the wheels delaminate and loose their rubber and the bearings tent to go early. These are all issues that yamaha should have addressed back in 06 but for somereason they failed to do anything about it until 09 or 10 (not sure which year they fixed these problems) I guess from what I understand.... The monoshock II is a better, stronger version of the same ride...

Going on 4years with my 06 RTX and love it, race it for 2 years and now I made it a 144" over buying a new one because it never gose down and the power is just killer. :4STroke: :yam: :rocks:

pretty hard to beat the engine on the apex for sure. the small issues that were mentioned is not that big of deal to me for a long lasting sled. i put 07' wire harness on my 06 bars and got alot better hand warmers.
