Need to get another key for my 06 mtn apex.. so that i have a spare.. went to my local yamaha dealer.. they dont know their a@@ from their elbow when it comes to sleds.. and recieved no help from them what so ever.. anybody help me? thanks

I was told by my dealer that I could go to any lock smith and get one made- but that was for my 2 stroke. :yam:

Ya i have the swithblade style.. but i do want a spare.. my locksmith said he couldnt get me one.. but could cut me a blank if i got one.. so that would prob work?

I believe you have to order it from the dealer. Call another dealer.

good idea. not sure what i did with my spare.
I would also like to get 1 or 2 extra made. maybe hide one somewhere on the sled in case i lose one on a stop.

I keep the spare in the bottom of the tool pouch along with a spare key for the van and the key for the trailer and superclamp lock.
I did need to make one for my R1. I ordered a blank from my dealer and then had to take it to key man. I remember because the key was steel and the girl at key man wore out her grinding wheel. Should have seen the sparks.

Is there not a set of numbers engraved on the key shaft itself? If so thats your code to order another, take to dealer show key code order new one.If not maybe with the VIN #.I am suprised you didn't get a spare.

The switchblade key can be trouble. At my dealer last season,a sled was apart for a new flywheel, because the key got hung up on cowl and kept the starter turning, even though sled was running. Same thing happened to a sled used for testing by a sled mag. I use the regular key and keep switchblade for spare for emergencies only. plowking

Take your spare key and using black electrical tape wrap it around some wiring somewhere like it belongs there.Just don't make it obvious.
Only you will know its there as it looks like nothing out of the ordinary with all the other wires wraped up.

I have heard about the problems with the switchblade key, but I tried to see if I could get mine to hang up on anything, and I couldn't. I like the switchblade key, but it's easier to loose. I lost it in my suitcase on my trip last year. Found it onthe last day before we loaded up to go home. I never trailer my sled with the key in, and I thought I'd loose it by putting it in my pocket!

Hi,nate. I think the key,if left half folded catches the cowl after sled was started. The sled at my dealer, the gentleman turned key to start, when it started he let go, didn't hear the starter still turning because of motor noise. plowking

Call a few different locksmiths, there's one close to my dealer that has blanks for all types of powersports machines. He's made me spares for my Attak and Cat ATV. I keep a spare in my windshield bag just in case. Was walking into a restaurant last year and found a key in the parking lot half buried in snow, lucky for the guy inside that I found it.
