I'm using 1.375 studs with round plastic backers, I think. But I can't decide on a pattern. The sled is a 02 Viper with a Camo 9860 1 1/4 track. Anybody have a good pattern that they have had luck with? Thanks. 8)

This is the pattern I used. Can't remember what template brand I used. But it is a 3-2-3 pattern repeated every 8 treads. It works well as a safety pattern; as in icy cornners, stopping etc. But I would put in more if you are looking for lots more holeshot traction. Although mine is on the stock .92 yoko which may make a difference. Sorry for the crude drawing, but you should get the idea.

Here are a few more 120 patterns. But I have never ran these patterns.

I prefer Woody's 144 pattern (center only) - I'd avoid studding the outer belts entirely. Just remember that not having enough studs is bad too, and if you use a 120 pattern on a Viper that includes the outer belts, you will have a greater chance of tearing them - JM2CFPE

I put a 120 in my Warrior (1.375) and I never had any rip outs or anything hook up in hard packed snow with the ripsaw was amazing. Not enough for ice but I don't race on ice.You will be fine with 120 down the middle.

I agree with 4fighter, I would probably run 144 down the center if I was to stud my viper again. But I haven't had any tearouts or problems with my 120 pattern. It works, as I don't ride much icy conditions. Here are woody's 144 center patterns

There is a pattern for 144 down the middle - all doubles - it worked great for me - I broke 2 studs last year in 2000 miles - and I am not a stud friendly rider.

If you use the woodeys pattern most of them are the same so if you start with 120 and want to add its no big deal. As for the plastic backers you want to use the extra large backers there a 1/2 long . they will support the long studs better. Fast trac also has a new double backer that is long like there exlarge, I have been waiting to get those to do my track.

Thanks guys. I was wondering if I should go with 144 or not. I'm still a little undecided. But I'm leaning towards 144 instead of 120. I bought these studs from a buddy that wasn't going to use them, and he only had 120. I can buy 24 more and go with the 144 single/double pattern down the middle only. I like that pattern. Thanks for the pictures, they helped greatly. Thanks again, Chad. :rocks:
