I have an 06 GT with about 600 miles on it, getting ready for our season here in Iowa, and want to hop up my sled. I have looked at just about every clutch kit out there, as well as exhaust, air intakes, computer chips...... I have ordered a Bender clutch kit from my local Yammi dealer, but I can't find too many reviews of it. Since I live in Iowa, I travel to the Mercer, Wi. a least once a year, so db's are a factor with pipes, and I want to know if anybody can tell me what the best bang for the buck is? (from their point of view) So far I have considered the Hauck, Bender and Sno Stuff Rumble pack for exhaust, and Hauck for programmers. I have only heard the Hauck and liked it, but what does any body think, here. Besides the clutch kit, what should I do and where do I stop??? I would like to spent less than a grand this year on bolt on's. :4STroke:

ORDER AN ULMER STAGE II,YOU WON'T REGRET IT

Cancell your bender order and get ahold of ulmer racing. Get spark plugs, air intake kit, and a clutch kit. Those are the 3 things that you will see a gain from. All of the exhaust system for the apex do two things, remove some weight and make the sled louder. Eric

Oh yeah, you really think your going to ride in Iowa this year? I dont even register my sleds in iowa anymore :)

In my opinion and for the sake of our sport, Leave the exhaust stock and save your self some ticket's!!!!, We do cross a lot of private land and when the owner's get sick of the noise we will be gone. There is little to no perf gain's frome exhaust any way. I have a CPR clutch kit with a 23 tooth top gear and am well satisfied with it now that i have chased down some other problem's that have made for difficult clutch tuning. Ulmer racing seem's to have the most going on now with clutching, induction, programer, etc and is well known and liked on this site. I have not had good luck with Bender in the past but have not delt with them latley. Good luck! kviper

Oh yah i have the plug's also, They do seem to make it run crisper. kviper

Does the Bender kit have any problems? I am very mechanically inclined, but new to the whole sled clutching voodoo... The local Yammi dealer says he likes dealing with Bender, but they are bigger into bikes and ATV's than sleds. The noise doesn't bother me, and I'm not sure, but I think the 4 strokes will get less attention form the noise police anyway. Iowa doesn't have any laws, and most of my riding is rural. I like to ride hard, but I also know when to keep out of it. I read another post about problems with Hauck, is this a widespread thing? The Bender guys have been great to talk with, but it's alot of money to gamble with......

If the Hauck pipes have problems, and it has been on here a few times, what's the deal with them fixing the issue, or making sure you have the proper clearances when installing it? I have heard alot of positive press about the Excell, but I just can't bring myself to get rid of the best asthetic feature on the sled, the dual exhast!! If Excell is a great company to deal with, lets ask them to investigate making a bolt on kit to retain the stock look?
As far as the clutching goes, does anybody know of any red flags to deal with when messing with the clutch? I come from the old 80's vintage sleds as a kid, and all I've heard was cluching issues making them worse after messing with them. I'm sure technology has improved things, but I don't want to look like a fool by ruining a perfectly good sled!!

Leave the clutching stock unless you are only concerned about the hole shot. Rolling starts I beat an Ulmer clutched Attak everytime we played last year with my Stock Attak at the January Muni ride. Open up the lid of the airbox, the 150 Fuelie runs a little rich and this will lean it out just right IMHO.

Who's intakekit works well? I've seen a few posts here for homegroen mods, is this as good as any others?
Oh,yeah, I'm not planning on any snow here in Iowa any time soon, hence, my sled is in a million pieces in my garage. I'm painting the side panels (saw another one here and loved it) with a House of Kolors Black pearl. I am ready to swap pipes as well, but I can't make up my mind. I have heard Mountain Performance pipes are about the same db's as stock, but have a different sound. That is what I think I want, just to have something that makes people notice that its different.

Does it work to open up the bottom of the stock airbox? I have painted my stock lid to match the rest of the sled, and I'm not sure I would like to look of holes in it. The factory box doesn't have a very good filter element, but the opening in the bottom of the airbox looks to be a little too restrictive. Would an air intake kit and a swiss-cheesed base be better? Have Dremmel.......

Go to ulmers website and check out his products he has dyno tested with a few of them as well,i have the air lid,but if i had not got it for a smoking deal,i would of opted to have allen do my bottom of my stock airbox,as he sends you one for one i think, and his clutching works good,or you can getany supertip clutch weights and make up your owne, but allen has put a lot of time in developing his products,if i was to put another exhaust on my 06 apex,it would be the excell, and i have already installed the hauck kit,i was unable to get it lean enough with my stock airbox at the time, and his fuel excellerator did not at the time remove fuel, which i needed,as i stated mine was pig rich, and it was so loud that my friends did not like it,i really liked the sound of the pipes, but i really dont like pissing everyone off, your call.

Or, you can call Fix PowerSports, who has good clutching, the airbox mod and are testing a new programmer, but are not sure if they will release it to the public yet.

I rode with a guy in Mercer, WI. last year that had all of the Hauck stuff on his sled, and he smoked me with no problems. I haven't heard too many good comments about either their products or service. Can ayone tell me anything about Benders stuff? I was told to send my Bender clutch kit back, but I'd hate to do that if it will work just as good as another brand.
The Hauck kit is 1200.00. I don't want to spend a dime if it won't run better. I also don't want to tear my sled down again to add or delete parts trying to find the right combination.

.......

Call Ulmer racing, great people, very helpful and they don't sell stuff they don't test. If you buy something from Ulmer racing you know it has been tested and proven to do what they say it will do.

Hey guy....welcome...

I think you should have spent a few days reading this awesome site before buying that Bender kit....

ulmers seems to be the kit of choice for most TY boys...personally I like the proline kit...but all the mods really depend what you want...

the stock clutching is very good as mighty said...i wouldnt spend one dime on exhaust....its already too loud and you wont gain anything from what ive heard...

seems to me the single most thing i did to make a difference was my home aid airbox mod...do a search on my name,...i have a detailed thread from last march which will show you how to make your own for under 40 bucks...it works, period!

read my signature for many other tricks all of us TYers are doing for the 07 season...these sleds rock already..but the little tweeks can help alot...

Let us know exactly what you do....if youre running short runs, then gearing is a plus i hear...for lakes, ram air and stock gearing we all seem to think.....lots of info on this site!...ive learned as much as Ive shared for sure!

merry xmas!

I agree with the pack had bender pipe would have sent it back but live in alaska . It was very hard to install for sure and had there clutch kits very little gains most apex owners have found the spendy route on pipes lost money no gains sometines losses of power I cast my vote with ulmer racing just my 2 cents your money your choice great riding sorry your state has had poor snow now for years am from minn as a kid glad to be gone to many petty laws and do gooders kim
