Need ADVICE ON APEX MODS!!!!??

I'll check on cancelling the order tomorrow. I guess the masses perscribe the Ulmer kit...
Dan, could you e-mail me the instructions for your airbox mod? In the mean time, I'll search for your info on the previous thread.
Are there any other recommended tricks for the Apex?
I think I will try the plugs, the air box mod, the Ulmer clutch kit and ?????....

I have never tried any Ulmer's products. He is one of the vendors that pay for advertising on the site. With that said he contributes more to this site than any of the others. If I were starting from scratch I would give him a call.
In the past I have delt w/ Bender ALOT!! I can not bash their products because they have worked for me, and have given me alot of help in the past. The last time I talked w/ Mike he said they would have a quieter pipe for the trail this season. Oh and Mountain Preformance and Bender are the same pipes...
For what it is worth I would not bother w/ the pipes. Not a wole lot to gain there. However proper clutching is gold. You could always look to NOS for a boost.
Call Bruce at CB for that. Oh he does clutching also.

Hope that helps

I have never delt w/ Hauck. I have heard their pipes on a RX1. It was loud. A little to loud for me

I don't think I would go for the nitrous. I've had it on my old Camaro's and I got tired of chasing empty bottles... I will probably run the sled this year with minor mods and look at supercharging sometime next summer. I own a construction company, and with the housing market the way it is, there isn't much hope for a big purchase this year...
Thanks for the info on Bender. I have spent a long time reading posts on the site, but tonight was the night to join! I can see if Ulmer is a sponsor they would get a bone here and there. Obviously, everybody has their opinion on everything, which is what makes it great.
I have heard of the new trail pipes being quiet. I don't care if they don't add much power, I think most people add pipes for the personality it adds to the machine. My main goal is to just make it sound different than every other Apex that I may park next to at the watering hole! Quiet is good, but there has to be a pipe that adds attitude!!! I'll spend a couple hundred for a good attitude!

Most of my riding is the ditch-banging type. I like the hard pull coming out of one corner and driving hard into the next. Maybe not carrying a ton of speed, but I like the incredible pull of a powerfull machine.
I'm not the most agressive rider of my group, but probably the second of about 8 guys I ride with. A buddy of mine just bought a Renegade 1000X, and since his track will limit his top end, I'm not worried about loosing to him, or going fast enough to take flight! The top end on the factory Apex is God's plenty... I just want harder acceleration through the trails. (30-75mph??) The othe guys I ride with just like to race from a standing start across a corn field or similar, so we never really hang out at high speed for very long.
I'll try the air box modification, the spark plugs, and the clutch. Anything else work good?

if youre not running lakes and are doing more short bursts...you might want to go to a 23 top gear..lots of talk here about how this helps in acceleration....talk to allen about that too...his clutch kit if i recal works well with the 23 and white spring...ask him about it.

here is the link to my ram-air kit....if you need any other help on making the kit just ask me....

I did find it late last night, thanks, Dan. I don't think I'll cut the top of my airbox open though, since I have just painted it to match the sled. ;)! I think I'll try to add a filter kit, and the gut the bottom of the box in places to allow more airflow. I have the sled in pieces right now, but after I figure something out, Ill try to post a few pics. Without looking at how everything goes together (not standing the with the sled) I can't picture how I'm going to do it yet, but using a few tips from the older muscle cars with cowl induction technology, I may try to bring air in from the foot wells if I can figure out how to route some ducting..... I'll research it and let you know.

I dont blame ya for not wanting to cut since you got it custom painted...however i dont feel any other UNDERHOOD airbox mod will give same results....the RAM part of RAM-air is what seems to make things work at speed..since its now SLAMMING COLD OUTSIDE AIR into the motor, sorta trying to mimmick what a turbo would do...but on a much lesser scale.

keep us posted...I love to hear what guys are trying on these reletively new sleds...always room for more ideas here on TY!

Dan
