i have a 05 rx1 121 track and i need to remove the driveshaft out of sled so i can put on no slip divers ( if its worth it ? ) i have the skid out already , is it like most other sled where you take the chaincase apart and if so do you remove that snapring on the end of the jackshaft to take the brakedisk off first ????

Yes you take off the brake disk, caliper, and there are some spacers behind the disk. Keep all of the spacers sorted out so that you know how to put it back together. There are a bout five bolts that hold the case halves together and on the machine. Remove the ones that hold the outside cover on, remove the cover and gears and chain. The big nut on the top gear can be tricky to loosen but if you put the key that goes to the disk back in and put a crescent aroutn the shaft and wedge up next to the key you can then loosne the nut with a wrench. again keep track of where all the spacers go for reassembley. The only other thing is the bearing on the other end of the shaft with the drivers has two #T20 torx set screws holding it in place on the shaft get them out and you are good. I left some of the incrediably obvious steps out but this should be enough info to get it done.
Good luck

I remove the entire chain case. Both halfs, because once you have the outside cover off and everything removed it's easy to remove the inside cover. When you remove the inside of the cover this will give you more room to slide the drive shaft out of the bearing on the opposite side. I do this also to save the seal on the inside cover that seals on the drive shaft. When you take the whole case off there is nothing left to damage if you have a hard time getting the drive shaft loose from the opposite side bearing. I also reassemble all the parts in the chain case to keep things in place and easier for me when putting it all back together.

I had installed the external drivers on my 03. I took them off because with the original suspension I had to grind down the teeth to clear the front bar of the suspension. There is not much room between the drivers and the front bar of the suspension. I have an m-10 installed now and there is even less room for those external drives. I took them off because I thought since I had to grind down the teeth so far I would have more bit on the track if I went back to the original drivers. The external drivers helped with the stock suspension but I didnt think with the money I saved on buying them then grinding them and having them put on was worth the money. IMO

No you don't have to remove the chaincase and pull it off the jack shaft. Remove the retainer clip on the chaincase driveshaft bearing and with a wood block on the clutch side of the drive shaft drive the bearing out of the chain case. Youre gonna want to replace the lower chaincase seal any way and this gives enough room to slide the drive shaft out with out taking off the chaincase. Mines apart right now waiting on the Bender RA suspension. Skid off track off and drive shaft out in less than 2 hrs.

So how did everybody go about actually getting the drivers off the shaft?
I certainly couldn't do it with the limited resources I had at my disposal. Did you take them to the dealer or someone with a press, cause mine were on there....
I tried to remove them so I could get at the siezed bearing race to cut it off. Heat wouldn't budge it. I ended up replacing the entire shaft w/drivers.

I took mine to a shop because I do not have a press.

You need a press.

Yamadog, I hope that you replace the bearing that you dimpled up by hammering on it, I would hate for you to have to be towed in because of a burned/locked-up or spun bearing. That might make someone think that Yamahas are unreliable. But you did save about 5 min during disassembly.

well i have it down to taken the gears off and cant do it because the shafts are spinning when i try to turn them , anymore clues
p.s never had a this kind of problem when doing this on my1200 mod polaris or any of my past sleds , the yamaha thing sure is a learning deal i can see that
i hope putting these nonslip drivers makes as much difference as it did on my other sleds
thanks mike.j
