I need some help guys. I bought a used Boss seat from a guy that had a standard RX-1. What do I need to make this thing fit? The install instuctions are very vague.
Is there a difference in how the rear taillights mount between these sleds? It looks like the standard RX-1 has brackets that hold the lights??? My Mtn RX-1 has the lights installed on the bottom of the seat. The instructions don't tell me anything about pulling the stock wiring or how to mount the lights. Maybe some of the instructions are missing???
Please help if you can.

You need to pull some staples on the stock seat cover to get the wiring out. The light is held in by the boss seat. I believe that you need to cut/break a couple of pieces of the light assy, but I can't remember for sure.

Lance,
Here's what you need to do for the tail lights once you have the stock seat removed;
1) Remove the staples from one side of the stock seat base a pull the seat cover back so you can get the oem wiring out.
2) Un-bolt the tail lights from the bottom of the seat and cut off the tab on the plastic shroud that goes over the red lense.
3) Then take the tail light assembly/yop shroud that you cut the tab off and screw it back on the plastic piece that has the wire mesh in it.
For the rest of the seat install, do the following;
1) Install the felt liner over your tunnel and stock heat shield for the exhaust. To adhere it to the tunnel, I used 3 alluminum rivets on each side spaced evenly from the tank to the heat shield located along the stiched seam and, another 3 alluminum rivets per side on the shield spaced evenly from the rear up and over the top.
2) Trim the top lip of your side exhaust covers that tucked up under the stock seat So that the BOSS seat will adhear to the velcro that is used to secure it to the tunnel. I suggest going 1/8" at a time and testing the fitment to the tunnel between the exhast and fuel tank so you don't trim too much off. The front of the seat slides under the tank shroud like the stocker.
3) Slide the assembled tail light and screened pannel into place and install the exhaust tips to hold it in place.
4) Clean the top of the exposed tunnel between the tank and exhaust covers with rubbing alcohol and a clean cloth.
5) If the tunnel is cool to the touch, use a heat gun of hair dryer (if the wife will let you have it) to warm the metal up. This will help ensure that you have a real good adheasion for the velcro. Adhere the velcro to the top of your tunnel just in front of the bracket for your exhaust covers.
6) Slide the front of the seat up under the tank shroud as you would with the stock seat. Pull the rear flap at the back of the seat down over your tail light lense. Firmly push the forward and down on the seat the rest of the way.
7) Mark the tunnel, black louvered side pannels for the fuel tank and tail light assembly for snap location. I marked the edge on all the snaps on the seat with a grease pencil so they would leave a mark where I needed to place the other drill and rivet the male part of the snaps to the sled. I had my wife sit on the seat to weight it down as I pulled down on the flaps as much as possible by hand before pushing the female part of the snap againt's the surface to leave my location marks.
8) Find the center of your grease pen circles and drill the holes/rivet the male snaps down.
9) Finally, install your BOSS seat and enjoy.

Attached are a couple pictures to show the tail light assembly and the felt/velcro location (disregard my jagged cut on the exhaust cover

Help!!
Thanks for the replies.
I have it almost done. My only major problem is the rear mounted turbo. The oil lines run down the brake side right where the velcro attaches. I think I will just put the velcro up over the lines and hope for the best. I did open the Boss seat and notch out some of the foam where the lines run. This allows the seat to sit a little lower, but not flush. I guess I can live with it up in the air a little.
I hope it stays on in a rollover.LOL

If you roll it at a fast enough speed to pull the seat off; it'll be the least of your worries. They fit really tight going under the tank cowl and that flap designed to go over/around the tail light lense can be a real P.I.T.A to strech over the back where it snaps to the rear plastic shroud between the exhaust outlets.
The velcro does hold the seat in place really well also. I have never had mine shift on me while planting my leg against it for leverage when sidehilling or boondocking through the trees. The snaps are just ther to pull the cover tight so the seat doesn't look like a technicolored Charpei dog.

One other quick thought, make sure you use backers on the rivets through the plastic where the snaps attach.

Please snap away. I could always change the way I have it mounted.
