im going to put an extra set of bogey wheels on my 06 attak. what is the best route to take on this project? anybody use the yamaha marginal snow wheel kit? the wheels look small. is there another kit available with full size wheels? where is the best place to mount them? thanks

Unsure about the Apex/Attack, had them up front at the curve of the rails on an SRX and they caused both rails to crack.

I installed the Yamaha kit about 1000 miles ago and I have had no problems so far. They really helped reduce hyfax wear at the front curved area of the rails.

I mounted them just behind the front most black rubber stops which is right about where the rail starts to curve up. Make sure that you use red locktight on the hardware.

I put them towards the rear of the skid. After 1000 miles, my slides still look almost new. The big difference is that they wear evenly now.

ive never had slide wear trouble at the front of the slide. it's always aft of the mid section of the slide. does the marginal snow wheel kit use the full size oem bogey wheels or are they some kind of mini wheel? i'd prefer the full sized. also, do i have to drill a hole in the rail for installation at the mid point of the rail?

I have the yam. kit on all my apexs and 1 attack, I get about 3/4000 miles on my slides before replacement. they also are smaller wheel 31/4 inch it , also you do need to drill a hole in the rail usually 6/8 inchs infront of the rear wheels, its the best money i have ever spent. I will not ride without them. I also take them off at least once a year to grease the bearing in them. Also once the slides get down close to the line they last forever. my 2 cents Jeff.

I replaced mine with the Doo 135mm wheels with their 2 bold mounting blocks and added an extra set in-between the rear idlers and the rear wheels.

mark...I like your job...maybe I'll yank my skid and you can give a few pointers ;)

500 miles on slides with stock setup, I put two small wheel kits and have 2500 mile on my slides and I'm still going to leave the slides on even though I have my skid out. but I also added bigger rear wheels & slightly larger inside wheels too, maybe that helped some. I have no cracks in my rails. i did have to replace some wheels and bearings, but i think it's from the rough riding i do.

I used the factory Yamaha wheel kit on my attak. Small wheels but bolted on and had no problems with 1850 miles. Hifax held up good and warranty on the rails would be covered because they mount in existing holes. :-o

Cire,

Is the Attak different than the Apex with regards to existing hole locations in the rail?

The reason I ask is because you said that you used existing holes. My Apex GT required that I drilled holes for the Yamaha low snow wheel kit.

I checked my Yamaha 08 catalog and it list for the Attak and LTX models only p/n SMA-8FT95-00-00 @ $79.95. It also list 1997 and newer p/n SMA-8FA95-00-00 (except Attak) @ $ 69.95. My mount had two bolts per side and the apex has a single bolt mount. Hope this helps. ;)!
