lol damnit cannot spell today, anyways, having a few issues with my war and need some help confirming what i suspect.
issue 1.
i start the sled and it runs fine. then it stalls and i have no power at all to the key. wait 10 min and it might start again but even with a boost it will stall after boost is disconnected. i get a check engine light when it is running. have suspicion that it is bad battery as my new batt was dead this fall when i needed to move my sled. batt is 2 seasons old. gave me no problems on sunday on 100 mile ride with brothers in north bay. think i need another battery.
issue 2.
on sundays ride i started smelling gear lube from my sled. track was changed last feb but sunday was 1st good ride since it was changed by my brothers tec class. we confirmed that they forgot to locktight the drive axle bolt but it was done 2 weeks before the ride. no obvious leak even after i modified the right side panel and foot well with a log i turned up with a ski. oil level was in spec even after the ride but did not smell the oil untill we had done over 50 miles. chain case gasket was damp when i looked at it last night. my thoughts are that i need a new chain case gasket.
now brothers issue

2004 war. keeps blowing the 10amp fuse when he backs up. unplugged the switch and it quit blowing the fuse. thinking the contacts are dirty in the switch causing it to draw too much power for the alarm.

-backup alarm, sounds like a wire has rubbed through and is shorting, should be easy to find/fix.
So your battery cranks and starts the sled, and then it will die a few minuets later? Would be curious to see what the voltage does wile its running. Check the connections ect, something sounds loose to me.
Also make sure your chain tension isn't to high, that would cause a smell for sure.

chain tension is finger tight on the bolt and tighten the jam nut.
sounds like i need my meter. will let you know once i have time to check it.

think we found the stalling problem. pinched wire under the bar pad. was shorting out the kill switch whitch also seems to kill power to the ignition.

Blown fuse on reverse = a wire that is shorting or a short in the buzzer itself.
You may want to back chain tensioner off 1/4 turn from finger tight. If you leave it tight, reverse does not work as well.
You may want to keep a close eye on the chain lube. If you spring a seal leak you typically get 25-50 miles before the chain stretches enough to slip over the gear and the entire guts of the chain-case are fried. Please do not ask how I know. But, I will tell you I have seen it more than once.
If you smell chain-case oil burning, you may want to look until you find the "smoking gun," so to speak. New chain cases and contents are not cheap.

brother found the smoking gun. when the chain case was re-assembled when the track was changed last feb, 1 collar for the jackshaft was lost in the bellypan. the seal runs on it. brother found it when he had the pan off fixing my skid plate for me with bolts instead of the riv nuts they supply it with.

not quite lol. but the ones at the beginning of the season keep life interesting. did not need the tow strap at all for ourselves last season.
gotta go out and re-do my heated visor plug as kirkswim and i are going for a ride on sunday and they are calling for a high of -25c.

update:
very annoyed at my dealer atm. when they did my service they did not bolt down the cdi on the battery bracket. found this on the side of the trail when my sled backfired and quit at -20c last sunday. 1hr drive 1 way to where i left it to pick it up. called dealer on monday and bitched. told me to drop sled off and they would look after it. picked it up wensday and was told all is repaired. sled ran fine for 2 hours, THEN IT QUIT A AGAIN!!!!!! just happened to be on old unplowed logging roads with my dad on a ride. stopped to wait for him and it died. got it running by wiggling the cdi harness. died again when we put the airbox on. towed it in 2' of powder untill we got stuck on a hill because the track locked up from the snow in it. left it there on the last hill on the road and went to my grandmothers to wait for rescue ranger kirkswim (awsome brother). left dad and mom at mimi's and drove almost to the sled. hill is pure ice under the snow. winch the sled 100' up the hill with a snow winch before we run out of trees. then hooked winch to the truck and pulled it up the hill to the top. ramps and winch to load in the truck (same as last weekend). chased brother out on dads venture. drove venture home and was 20min slower than truck getting home (pushed hard). kirk and fellow tec teacher are going to fix my damn sled this week i hope.
all this started at 3:00pm today. did not get back to mimi's untill halftime on the game.
just a little iritated.................................

well as of 4:00pm it still will not start. still defrosting though as it was packed full of snow. only been in the heat for 8hrs.
