Replaced all the drivetrain bearings and took it for a couple short rides, everything checked out fine. Went for a long ride this weekend and started smelling gear lube about 30 miles into the ride. Noticed that I had a stream of gear lube running down the side of the chaincase cover from the outer jackshaft bearing seal (behind the brake rotor). Got home and dug into it and found this! What I need help with is the inner bearing race is seized to the jackshaft making it seemingly impossible to remove the cover. Has anyone had this happen before and how did you get the chaincase cover off? Without getting too western I've tried knocking the bearing race loose without any luck.

eek! that is not going to be pretty. I would suggest a pointy dremmel bit or die grinder to remove the inner race or create a slot that you can get the ball bearings out of so the race can stay on the shaft until you have more room to deal with it.

we had a lower that looked like that on my 05 war when we replaced the track last season. 3 days to a muni ride no less!

out of curiosity, how many miles before this happened?

Thanks for the response maim! Your idea sounds alot better than what i was gearing up to do. (Voodoo doctor, sacrificial goat and a multi-use puller) Bearings had around 40 miles, it was a new bearing.

Welp, off to find a dremel, I'll let you know how it goes.

If you can grind it with a dremel till it's almost to the shaft then you should be able to pry with a screwdriver and make the rest snap open. then you won't damage the shaft.

WOOHOO, thanks for all the help/ideas guys. Now off to ordering new bearings, again but I think I'll stick with OEM this time. This site rocks!!!

Last year was my first year riding up here, I've ridden Petersville, Yoder, Turnagain, Placer. Hopefully this rain will turn into some more snow, there is anywhere from 4-10 guys in the group of guys I ride with, we're always looking to ride with others as well.

I'll let you know how the big su/sleeping lady are. Going to head that way in the morning see how everything out there is shaping up. Also to test out all the mods I did this summer.

Seeing as how your in my neck of the wood you don't know anyone with a good 136" 1.5 or 1.75" lug track they're looking to part with for a reasonable price by chance

Big lake area is a mix of perfectly smooth and rougher then crap. Lakes frozen but the streams are still iffy with this warm weather.
