Ok guys, I'm looking at picking up a new set of skis for my 08. I've already done the upper ball joint mod and I'm pleased with the resalts. However I feel there is room for improvment. I'm leaning twards Curve Indistries, but don't know which would be best. I ride agressively on trails in both the upper and lower of Michigan, and might be getting into cross country racing. Any input would be awsome.

Thanks!

I snowmobile in the same areas, and hard. I love my C&A pros with 8" carbide. C&A brand as Yamaha's race team!

I find the slydog skis work far better than the stockers, no darting, I have mine toed in, I have six inch shaper bars on mine.

here is a pic

You will be very happy with the Curves. I have 2700 miles on mine, and love them! After switching from the '08 Nytro specific' carbide to a 4 inch round bar, I am even more happy.

PM them, they are great to work with and will take good care of you.

I really like my C&A XTX skis. They are 7.25 wide and have one large center keel and 2 smaller out keels. I think they add to the stability to the sled because they are wider and do not have the rocker design which adds more contact front and back of the spindle. I think they control darting well.

Not trying to start an arguement here but I don't like to see anyone mislead. Draw a 6" circle and then a 4" circle inside the 6". This is the reason for toe out. The inner ski must turn a sharper radius than the outer, hence the toe out. It's simple geometry.

Toe out is to make up for slop in the steering. The more slop, the more toe out you will want. Snow passing along the inside of both skis with toe out will push the back of the skis outward and keep the sled somewhat striaght. Toe in can do the same thing in the opposite direction, pushing in from the outside on the back of the ski. The side effect of either is when one ski gets more bite than the other, this is now the strong ski and will go in that direction which may not be exactly the direction you were pointed in.

What you are thinking of is Ackerman Steering affect. This is mechanicly built into the sleds when designed. It keeps the skis folloing the correct radius for its angle of turn. The length of steering arm and placement is what determins this. The only thing having extra toe out will help with in this reguard is if you have toe out, it can help with how much effort it takes to initiat the turn.

If your front end is tight, 0-1/8 toe out will work. If you run skis with dual carbides, even with a loose front end you can run this little toe as the skis themselves naturally want to go straight.

loose front ends, as much as 1in of toe.

The toe in effect above is also plausible because the keel of a slydog skis is tappered thin in the back, thus with 0 toe, the keel at least would not run parallel

I agree with you BTV. But with toe out and the Ackerman Theory . Where it is on these sleds I'm not sure, more, less or true. The predictability in cornering will be greater with the toe out rather than a toe in. Hence the geometry changes between the 08 to 09. The steering on the 09 is way more predictable. This can become very complicated and I was keeping it simple for everyone to understand. In a straight line, depending on slop, yes toe in or out may not matter. When it comes to the corners than it will. THis is why yamaha calls for the 1/8 to 1/4 toe out. After parts wear and it becomes greater, than it's time to replace some parts. Skis don't change this. SO toe out or in, is not just for slop. Let's just understand each other.I've put a couple hundred sled together over the years, and attended thier schools and seminars. Not to say don't argue with me, but don't pick holes.
