A couple of questions...First is this the pipe that goes to the muffler that is cracked or is it the flex pipe???..second this is on an 06 and I assume it is stock so what is the material if I decide to try and weld it again???...last and most important how bad is this. I have not heard any sound from it. When I bought it last year the previous owner told me he did this and it looks like it pretty much broke right away when he did it cus the weld has just as much rust as the rest of the pipe so that tells me it has been this way for a while. I don't have a problem replacing the pipe except for the fact that money is very tight right now and if the option is replace it or not ride it then I would say for now if not all year it would be parked. So just give me your thoughts on this since most of you guys have been into these to do the o-rings. (the o-rings) were done just before I got it that is when he had the pipe welded.

Man that sucks. I replaced my y-pipes with the stainless one from yamaha. They were under 200 for the pair of them. Plus you have to get new donuts too.
I changed mine at about 7000 miles and they still look like new yet, but I replaced the donuts at 3600 miles.

Yea, suck is an understatement but it is what it is...were did you find the pipes for that price. Cheapest I can find so far is port yammy and they are like $170 a piece. And even though I aint got the money I think I would be foolish just to replace one side. That is why I am leaning towards welding if I can find out what the stock material is. I am I die maker so have access to all kinds of welding rods. And looking at the weld job that was done on it it just looks like they didn't get it warm enough, and also not hot enough. The weld is just sitting on top that is why I think it pretty much cracked the second he put it back on. Quik fix for now and replace in the spring when I got the time and the money available to do it.

Stock material is Titanium so, if it's rusting, well problem. It appears to be the right-side pipe? I have a left-side pipe OEM that you could have for dirt cheap as it's sitting in my bin of parts waiting for someone as yourself. I would try to replace it, the welding option has pretty much been overwritten with whatever work was done before. $180.00 per pipe is better than the 370 I paid for the Ti one, they are now stainless, that's why the price drop. I wouldn't change the left unless it's worn. If the left is toast, as I said, let me know I'll make you a deal. Many think that the Stainless is better than the Ti, not really the case it's just much cheaper to replace. If you replace the donuts every year (3,000 miles) the ti pipe will probably out live the rest of the sled.

I've got an extra set of Ti y-pipes in very good condition (flanges are perfect no cracks) you can have the pipes and new donuts still in the package for $300 if you're interested.

I guess rust was a little strong of a responce. Discolor would be a better way to describe it. And sitting on the sled it is the right pipe so thank you for the offer Lj that is why I like this site. Everyone is always willing to help. Deep down I knew when I looked at it that replacement in the only option.....and jjreds that is a good offer, but I gotta get thru christmas and the end of the year before I do anything so I might be looking you up after the first of the year...and again thanks for the responses.

Ask your yamaha dealer because their was at least for me a updated version of the pipes in stainless steel that were around $200 for the pair.

Stainless Y-Pipe Right Side 1 8FP-14610-10-00 $178.28
Stainless Y-Pipe Left Side 1 8FP-14620-10-00 $178.28

Port Yamaha price for stainless pipes.

Wow, these prices nearly doubled since January 2010, crazy...they were about $90 each 11 months ago.

Watch ebay sometimes there are nice take-off for sale cheap

Aren't some people having success getting these covered by Yamaha regardless if you're under warranty or not, using some emissions / environmental angle?

It's worth asking the dealer. The worst Yamaha will say is "no".

I wonder why the ss y-pipes jumped so much in price.

I'll work with ya if you only need one, I was desperate last year and bought 2 sets Ti and SS because of a shipping delay, I put the SS on because I think the Ti although very light weight is somewhat brittle, personally I wouldn't try to patch it, with the damage I saw I don't think you'll be successful, that flange is thin and needs to formed correctly for the clamp and donut to seat properly IMO.
