We have lost almost all of our snow, so I figured tonight might be my last ride of the season. After leisurely cruising around, I went to a stretch of trail that is wide, flat, groomed, about 1 mile long and safe.

Trail conditions were perfect for speed runs. High temperature was around 35 today with sun, and at this time it was now about 27-28 degrees. The heavy, wet snow that was slushy during the day was now mostly frozen. I gunned it from a stop and my Apex did something it has never done before...it lifted the skis right off the ground...to the point where not one part of the ski was on the snow! It stayed this way until about 30 mph, where the rear of the ski began to make contact. There was still no steering and I turned the handlebars back and forth to confirm that the skis were still off the ground (it was dark). The sled kept the skis mostly off the ground up to 90 mph where I let off finally, for my own safety. I was starting to outrun my headlight!

Another run and this time I plopped my 220 lb. #*$&@ down at the same millisecond that I ripped the throttle open. Off the ground again came the skis, this time with less track spin. The sled kept accelerating like mad all the way up past 100 mph, all in less than 1/4 mile. I ended up at 112 (Yamaha speedo - reality is probably 101-103).

During these acceleration runs, the tach first hit 11,000 then dropped back to 10,500 and never went lower. Another first for this sled. Could it be that it's finally broken in at 8,000+ miles??

The acceleration was so hard that I had to consciously overcome the G forces. My torso was being pulled back and so was my head, along with being pulled to the side. When I got home, I had to check to make sure I was still in the year 2010!

I was so excited and thrilled I called my buddy from the trail side to tell him all of this. He is the guy with the Nytro RTX that I cannot beat below 70 mph. The SOB pulls me from about 30-70 after an even take-off and stays about a sled length ahead (my front bumper is parallel to his rear bumper). I told him that tonight was the night. Tonight would be the night that I would get him. Too bad he's at home recovering from back surgery.

How do you know when you had a good time? When the first words out of your mouth when call someone to tell 'em is, "Snowmobiles should be illegal."

One final thought: This much brute force power is coming out of a snowmobile engine with over 8,000 miles on it, and a hood that's been open only for oil changes. If this were a two-stroke that had not been rebuilt yet, I'd still be waiting for the pistons to come out of the sky. Yeah, they are heavy, but I do not give a s*it. Nothing beats a four-stroke. :4STroke:

Make sure your transfer rod is not broken! I had the exact same experience in the UP of Michigan last week (incredible hook up and ski lift) and then I realized I had lost the back bolt on the transfer rod. Man do these things hook up without the rod!

You just felt all the power you have been waisting all this time. You must not have any weight transfer adjusted in your sled. My RX1 feels like yours all the time. Adjust some transfer if you like how it felt and enjoy.

Try a speed track with 192 chisels and go out on the ice if you really want a thrill....

Awesome! Isn't it a good feeling when you get them dialed in!

Best speed I ever saw on my speedo was 126 in perfect conditions on Cranberry Lake.. And I weigh over 300lbs fully dressed, thats moving for any sled with that much weight on it...

Yesterday, in average conditions with some real hard stuff on top I got 121. So speed conditions are good right now.. Sometimes the best I can get is 100, then other times Im seeing 25mph more on the speedo.. Thats alot of hidden speed that the snow conditions can take out of the sled.....

Love these machines.. I rode 145 miles yesterday, all the while thinking about how much I love this sled..

The problem is the other guy is gonna experience the same thing. Why would your sled react differently then the nytro. You get faster & so does he.

Because the Apex has more ponies so if the hook up is the same the Nytro will lose.
