So my current sled is an 04 gade 800. Its been one of those money pit years with it and I'm thinking of buying a leftover 2010 nytro xtx. Regular gas and no more injection oil is very appealing.
I ride probably 50% trails and the other 50 is busting up drifts or carving up backcountry powder. Carving up the powder is my favorite thing to do so flickability is very important to me.
My concern is that I won't be big enough to throw the sled around in the powder. I'm 5"9 and 170lbs. I find my gade is stubborn when it comes to laying over but it has a wider ski stance than the nytro.
I plan on switching to the 1.75 backcountry track, putting on MTS skis and probably the float plate.
I don't mind putting some muscle into it but don't want it to be much worse than my rev.
Thanks guys/gals

I find my XTX to be a real blast powder riding, and I spend alot more time off trail than I do on. I will say it's a little hard to get the thing to answer to you in tight quarters and in the trees, but if you normally play on forest roads and in fields and power lines you won't have too much problem. It's very flickable.

No, I'm about 25lbs heavier.beedeebee said:Thanks for replying, would you say your about the same size as me?
One other thing I'll say about the Nytro that I don't like. It would be alot easier to toss around if you could put a tall riser on it, but with the wonky angle of the steering stem, I didn't like it with a riser.

My son has the Nytro FX and I just recently purchased the RTX. We both come from DOO and CATS. We absolutely love the reliability of the Nytro but we do not have the long track. We like the tight woods and have no problem boondocking either. We simply like the short track better because we can throw it around like our two smokes. The engines are bullet proof and the horsepower and torque is awesome. I am 6'3" 220lbs and my son is 5'10" 160lbs. Love the forward riding position as we are avid motocross and ATV riders. Good luck on your decision!

Nytro XTX needs as least a 3" riser or the geometry of the sled makes the bars want to rip out of your hands when your standing and get on it. It takes the same riser as the RX1 and Phazer mountain risers work well too. Get a Phazer riser and I think it is drilled for the Phazer gauge pod, which brings the cluster up on the bars. I did this on mine and love it.

I have a few complaints about the Nytro, the ability to throw it around in the backcountry is NOT one of them. I enjoy my Nytro more off trail then I did my revs.

Thanks again for the replies. I was hoping I'd hear from someone who had a rev before.
I'm really just ready to have a reliable machine and not have to haul injection oil around. That said the ice build up issues I've been reading about are a bit concerning.

If you store your sled outside...could be an issue with ice build up. I keep it in an unheated garage but there is enough heat where most of the build up drops down after sitting a bit. If I plan on riding the next day (and there is alot of build up) I will run a heater in the garage over night.

Ya I don't have a garage so it would spend it's downtime exposed. Hmmmmm, most the other issues with the nytro Incan live with but this could be a real dealbreaker.
If a guy picks it up and drops it a few times will the ice drop out or does it get really jammed in there?

I was able to get my ice build up under control by blocking off the tunnel completely. There is only a small hole where the exhaust passes thru. The ice build-up I have now is about the same as my Rev or actually less.
Now I just have to tap the outside of the tunnel with a rubber mallet then put the sled in reverse (while on stand) and out some the ice.

Ice build up can be an issue but it depends on the temp of the day. I rode 400 miles in 3 days up north and only had ice build up issues one day it was cold out and snow was loose and when a BIG clump of ice would fall out while riding you could tell it. I am going to do something about it this summer. But other than that issue I LOVE my XTX.

A friend of mine went from a 2009 800 gade to a 2011 Nytro XTX and has no regrets.

I like the 15" wide track for boon docking better than the gade 16", much easier to pull over and hold! I am about 6'1" and 200-210.
