I purchased an 04 warrior over the summer for my first sled I have owned. I got it with only 800 miles on it, and was planning on keeping it stock for at least the first season. After a few weekend rides in December, I was slightly disappointed. My buddy I ride with has an 04 800 Rev (2" track) and now a 09 XTX. Both sleds left me in the dust, both in the corners and in a straight line.
I read hundreds of posts on this forum about different mods that you all have done. I finally decided to mod my sled now so I would be happier while I ride for the rest of this season. I started with a 1.75" challenger track (the stock ripsaw only has 1200 miles, but has no traction), tightened the limiter straps, 13mm Pioneer sway bar, Curve XS skis with 6" shaper bars, CPR filter kit and clutch, and an extra 5" of HD foam in the seat. I also removed all graphics to clean up the appearance.
I went to Cadillac, MI last weekend just to test it out, and WOW!!! The sled actually goes now when I hit the throttle instead of just spinning the track. The suspension adjustments and the new skis allow for flat cornering and much better control. I like the seat height now and I have a 4" riser ready to install as soon as I get a longer throttle cable. This sled is MUCH more enjoyable to ride now. Worth every penny for mods!! I can now pretty much keep up with my buddy's XTX in the trails (and he is a better rider than I am). Off the line, he pulls away about 3 sled lengths, then we stay pretty close in a straight line drag race. I am anxious to see how my sled does in deep powder now. It should be significantly better due to the longer lug track and the skis.
THANK YOU to everyone on this forum for the great posts and advice. I am much happier with my Warrior now!!
P.S. The only problem I still see is the track ratcheting. On a whole-shot with good traction it ratchets even with moderately tight track. With the track at correct tension, it ratchets occasionally in the trails also. I will most likely be adding a set of 8 tooth extros in the near future to correct this.
