Hello..

I did it....into 4 stroke Yammie land.

Picked up a 2009 FX Nytro RTX SE.

Lots of Km (20K)

Sled looks pretty clean.

Currently frozen.

Will un-thaw and do a recce.

I'm at the infant stage right now so hoping to soak up all things Nytro from A to Z and graduate to toddler...: ) with your guys help.

I'm located up in the Great Lakes..North.

Thanks

Doog

Congrats on the new sled. I drive a 2011 Nytro XTX. I’m interested to see what you think of the RTX after driving it, what’s the track length on that?

welcome!

at that km motor is just broken in right. looks like the po was a long distance guy by the klopin/rotopax mount on the tunnel. these usually take about 7.5 gallon from bone dry witch was less than the apex/vectors of the time. in good conditions it should get around 100 mi if you are not brapping it.

the only things i would check, besides fluid levels, would be the speedo bearing and the jack shaft bearing. the speedo bearing is a known issue and some guys just replace it every year. i pick the seal out , wash the old grease out with brake cleaner and re pack it with a needle greaser while still in the sled.

otherwise ride that puppy and have fun!

Not to disagree with Maim since he probably has forgotten more then I will ever know but I’ve read a lot of threads that say to use wd-40 and not brake clean to clean out the drive shaft bearing. Don’t go crazy with compressed air, but you can also use the compressed air in conjunction with the WD-40 or brake clean if you so choose and get a lot of the old grease and grime out. Don’t pack to much grease in there or you can push the seal out on the other side.
Not a bad idea to jack the front end up and check the an arm and ski bushings for play as well.

it has up graded skis and those ski shocks are not stock, so odds are the front a arm bushings have probably been done with oilite at some point. i pick on the speedo bearing as it sucks to have to walk home when it fails.

did the nitros come from the factory with the reservoir fox floats? i don't remeber. i do know they came with standard fox floats.

Thanks folks

Trying to come up to speed quickly...

Reason I gotta good deal (to be determined)....the starter soenoid relay ...prevoius owner playing with it...more to follow

Cheers

Ok....I jumped in and did a look/see ...zowee . very tight quarters..R&Red (Removed & Replaced) the starter relay and repaired a molex connector wire /terminal lug. Now she energizes the display with key on ( battery seems strong). ...does turnover the starter motor....But still no start.

Ok...added some fresh petrol and attempted start up holding the key on...no joy...lots of farting and banging(back fire)...no joy....

R&R ed sparkplugs (CR9Es 30 thous gap) and checked for spark...good ..all of this whilst learning how to strip the body panels, seat and fuel tank.

re-positioned fuel tank with reconnecting harnesses, hoses and fresh fuel...for the new sparkplug start test....no joy.... though seemed to wanna start a few times..

discovered a fuel leak eminating from the in-tank fuel pump ...removed tank and flange clamp/ plate...pulled round gasket off...seems to have expanded...my old bike/sled mechanic detested any kind of monkey wank (permatex etc)....can I order a new gasket? The other half of the fuel pump assembly is connected to the tank...the flange base... maybe its leaking there...mtf

Doog with gratitude for help!

if it still doesn't want to go once you get the fuel leaks under control, probably will need a valve adjustment. the 3 cyl yamaha motors seem to need it sooner than the 4 cyl.
