2005 rs rage
This forum is awesome! I just purchased a used 05 rs rage with 6800 miles for $1500. I just couldn't pass it up for that.

It really wasn't what I was looking for, I have very limited snowmobiling experience. Never got on one up until a month ago, now that's my 8th sled.

First one with this type of power. Before this I've mostly had lower powered older sleds.

96 doo 500 fan
96 puma 340 fan
Prowler 440 liquid
Etc.

So, seems theres alot more info on the vector than the rage so....

What's the difference track lenght?
And what about the venture?
Will the two up seats from a venture fit on the rage? Just extend the exhaust tips? Or is a jack seat the way I have to go?
I really want it to have option for a passenger.
The front of the rage has dual carbide and handles great. The back seems very squirrelly to me, I like being able to slide around the smaller sleds, but should I add studs? Or just wait for the snow to pile up and the stock track will be fine?

The Rage that you purchased is really a one person touring sled. The track is 136" in length with a 1&1/4" lug. The Venture line is the two-up touring line. There was a 600 Venture with a 136" track, but it was meant for a 2-up sled and was a 2-stroke with the exhaust at the front. Other Ventures has longer tracks with the rear exhausts at the very rear of the sled. If you can't fit two people on the seat, I wouldn't use the your Rage, all though I'm sure some one on site has modified it for 2-up riding and can chime in. That track shouldn't be squirrely, but would benefit from being studded for safety reasons especially on very hard pack or ice. I have about 27,000 miles on my Vector, and it still runs well except for most of the rivets loosening up by now, which is expected on an older heavy sled with a lot of miles.

Thanks thrasher for the info. I dont need it for 2 people touring, gush on occasional to have my 10yo ride on the back if we all go out. Not putting her on there without a legit seat with backrest. And would be riding very easy also.

Maybe squirrelly isnt accurate, still a noob on snowmobiles. Feels very stable just no grip with all the power on acceleration. Then again it's about twice the power of our other sleds. Kinda torn about about adding studs I have ridden identical formula sl one studded and one not, i like the ability to slide it around the non studded one but like the braking on the studded one.

conditions play a factor as well. ran a 05 rx war on the stock 1-1/4" ripsaw with no studs and had no problems with it once i had sled set correctly.
