broken polaris'
A freind of mine has a very clean well maintained 05 rage with 12k miles that I was thinking about picking up. He said he replaced some bearings in the drivetrain last year, other than that I am not sure on the history of the sled but I do know he genrally has all nesessary maintence done by the dealer.
I am familar with sleds but new to Yamahas I would think it would be due for the rest of the bearings, shocks or a rebuild ect, which I am ok with. What else should i look for or plan to replace? I saw the thread on the cam tensioner, I will ask if it has been done, if not I will do it in the off season I think.
I will be coming off a polaris 600 edge with a 136 m10 with my custom shock valving that I really liked so if I like the whole 4 stroke thing I may just put a 136 m10 in the yammi, I have also owned faster modded 800 2 strokes and a couple rmks but most of the guys I ride with have either sold their sleds so most of my riding nowdays is with the wife and kids not riding real hard.

Well I'll chime in a bit and hopefully others will as well. There's a boatload of posts here about the good and bad of the early RS model sleds. Based on what you stated I'll offer:
1. If the sled was dealer maintained, will your friend let you call the dealer for the service records?
2. IMO - coming off an Edge with M10, plan on putting in an M10 ASAP. You will be VERY disappointed in the ride quality of the stock 05 skid.
3. I think one of the best upgrades one can make to the sit down style RS models is an Apex "taller - rider forward" seat. To me the sled just feels better...hard to describe.

Bottom line is IMO the chassis will fall apart before the engine pukes. 100,000+ miles? Who knows?

lol nick keller has a pic of his 2010 vector spedo on facebook. odo shows 78,000+ miles. the skid is rider prefernce but only other thing is to check the exh dounuts as it might be time for them to be done again.

the skid is rider prefernce.

In his case I respectfully disagree (based on real world experience). He's coming from a M10....if he likes the stock Rage skid.....well...stranger things have happened but I seriously doubt it.
