Great mileage out of that top gear bushing for sure! That gear has 10,000 miles on it.
I was expecting it to look like my buds' at 4000 that was completely shot.
I bought the bushings you suggested.
My plan is to see how the new gear with 3 holes works.
Next year i'll put the new bushing in & every year after that just put a new bushing in.
I'm going to MIC the results & record them.
I will definitely pull this chain case apart & tear through it EVERY year
I did notice how the center post is worn, i think from a loose chain, so this tensioner HAS to be checked regularly, but it's a PITA when sled left up North.
BTW: If anyone is interested, i use Amsoil Chain Oil & a touch of NRG Release above the sight glass with tension 1 turn out when i check it which will be A LOT more now that i've seen the inner workings of this case.
I too think that a loose chain may cause that middle post wear, but that dam small diameter on the stock 21T gear is also to blame! Compare the difference when 22T is put on. It allows the chain more room away from that post with it’s wider diameter!
I did that same post damage on mine with under 1000 miles on it, six years ago! Gear is just too small, so I changed to a 22T and added a tune back then! No more wear since!
As pointed out to me by others! It can only wear so much without going too far and causing it to hit the bolt in that post maybe, and at that point it’ll probably start to leak oil from that worn post!
Reason you don’t hear about that from our Cat side, their top gear is much bigger!
Ours 21/41 theirs ??\38
