New Track and Extrovert drive

This weekend my son put a stud though my front heat exchanger. I'm going to pull the track and take it to an aluminum welding shop in hopes that they can fix it right in the sled. It's time for the oem ripsaw track and studs to go. I am going to go with 1.5" intense full clipped track and switch out to the new extroverted drivers. My sled it a 121 and I ride trails most of the time. What drive sproket should I go with? The new Yamaha sprockets are 8 tooth and my internal drives look to be 9 tooth. Schmit Bros. have several sizes available. What will work best and why?

Schmidt bros are the same as wahl bros which are plenty good for none boosted applications ive used mine for two seasons now and they look good yet. You can get avids but are more money. You going to need 9 tooth 2.52 pitch. I've never used the intense but heard good things. I have a 1.5 ripsaw which works very well on/off trail.

Yea I just did the head gasket. Got about 1100 miles and now this. I was planning for a new track next year. If it can be fixed in the sled I'll cross my fingers that the engine is ok. If I end up pulling the engine and taking the exchanger out I will just do another head gasket when it"s out. My son said the light came on about 100 ft from an intersection and it quit and wouldn't restart at the intersection. It's hard to say if he was realy paying attention to the gauge. Kids, and he's 20

If you go with the Wahl's sprockets, here is some advice. When you get them, round off the back of the sprocket a bit (the non-drive side of the tooth). You can take a good 3/16" off the back side to round it off. If you leave it as is, the drive sprockets will make quite a bit of noise during decel. I have the Wahl's and they are very good. But I had the decel noise. After rounding off the back side of the sprocket (found this tip in a search) the noise went away.

It will be easier for you to round off the teeth before you install the shaft on the sled. A dremel tool and about 20 mins of time is all it takes.

Just spend the extra money and get the Avids. They are CNC machined and no further alterations are required, no noise, no rubbing on rails.

I was looking at the sprockets from Shmit brothers, they are a couple bucks cheaper. Are they the same sprocket? Your info is good to know.

They are the same thing. Ive never noticed the noise from my wahl drivers but good to know.

Yes, Avid does make 2.52" pitch, 9T extrovert drivers. That's what I am running on my turbo as direct replacement for stock.. Absolutely no wear and clears XTX rails without any trimming.

Right on. I think the extra money is worth it over the Wahl Bros. Clearance isn't and issue on my shorty but quality is important and ya get what ya pay for

3000 miles on my wahl bros extros now and they still look the the same as when I bought them. if they are "timed" right and in the center of your track clips there should never be any problems with them in a non-boosted sled.

there are timing markers (arrows) on the extro's and as long as they are facing the same way and in the same direction they should on the same plain
