Recently purchased a left over '05 Vector. Would like to hear any performance improvement tips from current owners. Anything to watch out for other than the clutch update that I'm having done before I pick it up. Former sled was an '01 SX700R. How will performance compare, will I be disappointed?

Change the stock carbides to a 6" woodys exec or something. As far as performance, I think you will like it. No smoke, no oil filling, less gas used, and a wide somooth powerband. Enjoy!

i think the vector will smoke the 700 that u had-maybe not on top end but anything upto 90. i put 3600 mi on my rage and thought it was absolutely wonderful. people have had problems with hyfax but seems like more with the vector than the rage-i dont have any problems, other than just wore out hyfax from so many miles. i put the clutch fix in, seems to reduce noise by 25% or so-make sure u clutch it-if performance is an issue

You will like the Vector but the performance will be different. For example, you will have to get use to engine braking and it is quite different than riding a 2 stroke. Takes about 10 minutes to adapt. In general, the SX700 will corner better than a Vector. You can do things like skis and improved carbides. The Vector is sneaky fast in that you don't realise how fast you are going until looking at the spedo. I think you will really like the Vector over the SX700.

One thing that someguys had problems with is the t.o.r.s system if you do a search you will fimd post on. Its no big deal but just a heads up on it. only a few sleds have had the problem. enging will cut out when you give it the gas. well wecome to the vector group

Thanks for the responses. Are there any recommended cluthching setups similar to Turks on the Tech page? How bad is the track howl issue I've been reading about. Any known cures?

I rode Tork's Vector last year and didn't notice any track howl. This was during a 4 day bagger trip and he didn't mention it either.

One thing to keep in mind is that while this site is a great source of information, it all comes down to individual preference and feel. What is unacceptable to one person is totally acceptable to another person. So you need to filter the information based on your tastes and requirements.

Yeah, the internet requires a lot of filtering.
Didn't I see a thread where Tork was complaining of track howl?

Does anyone have a good clutch set up for the Vector?

Q: Tork? Any other time than sledding that you get that same noise?
A: Yes, when I ride my motorcycle over the 8600 ft. grated section of the Mackinaw Bridge. Might be interesting to take a look at the surface of that.

You can see that the shape of the grading is not unlike the paddles of a Ripsaw track and also the clips.

Q; Tork, when sledding, when is it loud?
A: It is only loud to me when road riding with thin snow and ice cover, the kind where at night your carbides put off a 4th of July fireworks show.
My sled is always some sort of symphony, the moan or shriek of the engine, the back shifting of the clutches. It just breaks out into this loud Hendrix anthem when road riding and it usually tells me that BLUEDOG has found a shortcut to his favorite watering hole or a 50' long stretch of open water :D

Q: Are you bothered by it?
A: No, It has interesting harmonics to the noise. Like a sailboat rope or cable when you have the sails just right. Sailers call that 'wind on the wire', and look at it like your ship and the wind are playing you a song.

Q: Tork, OK so not really a problem, but do you have any ideas of why it is louder on a Vector vs. RX-1
A: Yes I do.

BTW the Vector is a great sled!
