Well I did - ordered up a new ZX2 144 I have been reading up on all the great info and had a couple questions!
1. Revalve the shocks or leave stock? While it is out should I just get them done??
2. Bushing kit from Excell? Is it needed or should I just run the skid as is?
3. Does anyone run Hyperfax Hyfax?
Looking for any other tips or MUST DO's while it is out - I want to get the skid set up right from the begining!
Thanks

You got a whole new skid, or just the extensions? As for the bushing kit from excel, I heard ad boivin changed there design to a different material. Only thing is I believe the top is still that plastic. And for the shocks Ive also heard they went with synthetic oil now, which should make a big improvement.

ps, I also just put a 144 under my apex gt. Hope its awesome as they say....

I would just leave it. I am sure AD Boivin makes a few little changes here and there, so it is probably a bit better go out of the box then the people who ordered them when they first came out.
You will love it, its super durable and rides awesome. Post some pics when you get it.

Leave as is, you will love it. Just get it mounted correctly any deviation and it will not work right. I sent you the universal calcs, AD makes it real easy to set up in custom tunnels, drivers, lug heights, etc.
Enjoy! This is most verstatile, durable skid on the market.

1. I like the stock setup but it all depends on your riding style.
2. My stock lower shock bushings lasted about 8,000 miles before failure. I just inspected the upper bushings that are the originals with about 11,000 miles on them and they look new still.
3. My original hyfax have over 11,000 miles on them. There are a lot of wheels on this skid.
You will love this skid.

If ANY one would wear a skid out it would be mdkuni, AD should pay him for the durability testing he has provided LOL
I have 2500 miles on my Zx2 and like mdkuni bushing slook new, slides are maybe 1/4 worn but wore that much the first 1000 miles and haven't moved after the 2nd season.

So just Loctite everything and install - sounds good to me! Kinger, I was reading through the install manual and it sounds like I might need my front end put back on my sled for the install!! While reading through it - it says to locate the lowest part in your tunnel, below the heat exchanger is the example - I wonder if I should get this point from below my tunnel dump exhaust????

I wish AD and Yamaha would jump on that thought!

Yep the lowest point, your muffler would be good. For my conversion I'm going to the stud protectors when I calculate where to put it for my 162 2.25" paddle track it will be high but at least I wont have to remove the rear heat exchanger then. Only issue I see is the front mounting point might land right on the running board. So when your mocking up the points be sure to check where everything lands and make sure your ok otherwise you will have to adjust on of the measurements.

It just seems like the sled will sit up way to high- I guess if I do the calculations right it should be fine!!

Oh it will be WAY high but at least I can run, I care more about handling in 121" mode and just want the big track in the bottomless powder and can work around the added tippyness while enjoying the western back country.
It will be like a semi though compared to everyone else LOL

kinger what do you mean. I installed mine per instructions, ive never seen any universal calcs. Or is that for modded tunnels or something? I dont think I have anything to worry about since the skid was installed with the mounting plates made for the apex. I guess I just dont understand what you mean by universal calcs thats all. Maybe I missed something...
lol scratch some of that. I just read you other post.... going to check out the file you attached..

Box is in the drive way - I cannot wait to get this thing put together, although the universal install directions suggest I need to have my front end installed before I can proceed with mounting the skid!! WTF

I don't know all the particulars for this skid, but I bet I can still say that the front end ride height is critical to proper setup.... an inch or 2 up or down at the front bumper can really make a big difference on any skid I've dealt with.
From stuff I've helped guys with, I think it's absolutely great for them to insist on knowing where that front's going to be as part of their setup. Safe bet it's going to work right when your done that way! Without that information, they have no idea what height you're going to be running, and would have no clue where to fasten the mounting brackets, as far as height within the tunnel, without it. FWIW -Al
