I am in the process of buying a new 2011 nytro FX,
1st I have to choose between the xtx or standard not a big difference in price, I will be doing most of my riding in northern MI and the U.P what are the pros and cons of the 144 compared to the 121.
2nd I have been reading a lot of posts in this forum just ripping on how these sleds handle and I was wondering is it really that bad and if so am I making a mistake buying one?
These are my two concerns any input is greatly appreciated.

The handling issues can be addressed pretty easily if you have some time to work things out. I'd plan on buying new skis, i ended up with Curves, but that's just my opinion.
As for whether the sled is right for you, do some searches. It is not a sit down cruiser out of the box. I love the sled because I'm standing up 80 percent of the time and ditch banging. I find the handling and suspension for this type of riding superior to any sled I've had before, including my X package doo sleds. I have the FX as well and love the shock package.
XTX versus the shorty ~ again I'm on rough but groomed trails most of the time and have didn't want the long track. I had a Renegade X before and honestly didn't notice too much of a difference with the 136 track.

If you play off trail at all, go with the 144, you will not notice much diff. on trail, and much better when off. The handling is not that bad out of the box and with a little fine tuning it can be great. They are great sleds, and great to stand up on and ride also.

Read though the FAQ's and then do searches about handling, fuel milage, the OFT steering relocator.
If you are rinding off trail than wider skis are a must because the stockers are 5" wide and knife in and make the sled feel even heavier in deep snow.

I'm bias to the XTX.
It's bit more to mussle around but it's more stable in many ways.
Plus more track footprint for the deeper stuff and take off.
Nytro launches hard you may as well have the traction.

At first, I didn't want an XTX in any way. Now that I have one, I don't know if I would want a shortie. I personally would go with the XTX. The ride on a groomed trail is very similar to a shortie, but like everyone was saying, the floatation off trail is nice. Plus, the reviews say that the XTX is a bit quicker then the shortie. Not sure of that's true or not.

Yeah the XTX has more top end due to the less aggressive approach angle of the rear suspension. People were seeing 110mph+ in perfect conditions.
My rtx would only get 100 or so, on extremely hardpack snow.
