While I had the front end apart to do the steering stem and headlight I decided to fix the K&N filters once and for all. Here is what I did, maybe its not so smart.

The holes where the air box went i used to hold the bent aluminum sheet. I rolled it just a little around the bar and cut clearance for the stem on both legs of the angle. I then figured out where I wanted to drill my holes in the angle to secure the filters and drilled them on the bench. I then transferred from those holes to the end of the filters and drilled those out. From the inside I put a 1" 1/4-20 bolt with a fender washer on each side of the filter wall and secured that in with a nut, basically sandwiching the filter wall and making the bolt very secure. I mounted the middle then the 2 side filters, brought in the angle bracket over the bolts and secured it to the frame using some metric bolts that were just right for the job. Finally I put 1/4-20 nuts on the filter studs to make them extra secure. I don't think I needed to secure the bolts to the plate, it was pretty secure without them just using the bolts as pins, but just in case I used them. Maybe wing nuts would be better for in-field removal. If it all works then I'll take it apart and round the corners of the plate and clean it up, make it purdy.
