Yammi,
I know that Portage Lake is frozen over now. I travel to that area on business and will be there next week. I will let you know what I find out.

Portage Lake is located on Route 11 just north of Ashland, Maine and south of Eagle Lake. Stay at Deans motor lodge. They will treat you right.

If you look at the snow cam for fort kent it looks like 9-10 inches, but it may just be how it layed in the snow bucket.

Just got back and did about 50 miles. Lost what little snow we had on the weekend due to all the rain, but received about 6 inches of wet snow today. If we get some cold weather should form a decent base however as of now, no one has groomed and with 6 inches we are at bare minimum. Railbeds are ok, but fields and some woods trails are far from being perfect. Also the St. John, St. Francis area usually has some decent roads to ride on, but this year they are logging in that area and therefore roads are plowed. Usually have 2500 miles by now, but this years conditions are by far the worst I've ever seen in my life. Eagle Lake and Long lake are caught in some places, but far from safe enough to ride on. Especially with this blanket of wet heavy snow on top, if you want to ride the lakes, you'd better bring a life jacket.

Long Lake area received 7+ inches yesterday. They are riding on Long Lake except in front of the Sporting Club. Cold temps all the rest of the week with the potential of snow this weekend.

7" of snow is a generous estimate, more like 5",i was all over the valley today and didnt look like anyone got more than 5-6",but i will say this,it was a good heavy snow so it is probably like 8-10"of a lighter snow,if they are on the long lake they are brave, some one has to be first i guess lmao
