Well, not new, but new to me. 400 miles on the machine.
I pulled out the foam in the pannels, re did the drivers, and track.
After I put the chain case back together, the disc brake has a bit of loose in it. about 1-2mm. I figured it might be normal - can someone confirm that?
I think that maybe with the play, it's rubbing somewhere and making a strange sound.
I was wondering if all the noises associated with riding this machine are normal. For example the whine when going down hill.
thanks, **Check out the reply***
I did open up the chain case , but didn't really do anything to the chain. It just *came together* didn't even touch the chain tightening bolt...
did I miss something in the re-assembly?

You will have better luck asking this question in the fx nytro general section.
This is the project/garage/showroom section of the forum.
The whine going downhill could be low gearing, or too tight chain.

You will have a little play on the disk brake, your good there. As for installing the chain case cover, if your sled has reverse, you need to make sure the gear lever inside the casing line up with the machined coupling on the reverse gearing..
Most of the noise that you will hear is due to the clutch, common for Yamaha...
Good luck with your new sled, plenty of good information on TY to help with your sled PMs and mods.

the clutches whining when rolling down hill happens to every sled.

It does have reverse and I think I lined everything up. Reverse works and it came together. So I assumed that I had it okay. Could be worth an2nd look it it's possible to get er together and have not coupling properly.
My 07 summitx had clutch noise when downhilling too, but not nearly as prominent.
I'm getting rattles and harmonic whistling when going up too tho, but I figure it's just because I'm standing right over the motor...

If u have your chain to tight it will whine like that too
so how do you check the chain tension? I've had it open and didn't see an obvious way to do it - because you need to loosen/tighten with the cover closed, but then you cant see how tight it is...

Rule of thumb is tighten bolt finger tight then tighten locknut.

Start by reading the service manual.
It will give you much good information about what you need to know about your sled. It will also cover the chain tensioner.
Right side panel off - loosen set nut - check tension - should be fingertight and 1/4 off.
But as said, its covered in the manual.
Here you go. Good luck!

Mostly correct, finger tighten then back off 1/4 turn. Then tighten lock nut down. Youll be good to go

Took the chaincase appart again. The new oil (40km) that I filled it with is now black and has some dirty goo in it. I don't see metal bits tho.
Not sure why this would happen - hoping that the chain was too tight and now that I've set it to spec it will be better.
