I was up North this weekend riding and almost ran the nytro out of gas but was lucky enough to make it to a gas station in time. I rode with the fuel light on for about 20 km, I ride with a bunch of bombers and they all had like just under 3/4 of a tank left when I was pretty much bone try, I fill my sled up with just regular and they fill theres with premium which is way more money and there still like $7 cheaper to fill up then me, I was shocked how good those 800 etecs were on fuel.. Anyway yesterday I filled my sled up right to the brim before we left to cabin and I rode 60km before my fuel gauge dropped one bar but from there on out it was dropping a bar like every 10 - 15 km, by the time we made it back to the cabin we had run 96 km and I was reading half a tank. Has anyone else noticed that with there sled that it reads full for so long then the bars just start disappearing like crazy? I usually try and pull that white sleeve out of the tank when I am filling to squeeze a little extra gas in there, but i'm not sure if it just ends up running out of the vent tube/over flow tube, where did you guys run your overflows to prevent gas from running out of them when trying to squeeze as much gas as possible. I thought about buying a trail tank but for the $350 its going to cost me I don't know if it's worth it?

rode 80 miles on my nytro last week and i had 4 bars left, my wife who rode with me also 80 miles has 2 bars left and the light was on..we both have excell exhaust and ulmer clutch kits..but i also have the k&n set up and a pc5 with and Excell map..so here is my logic trail tank holds 2 more gallons of fuel..pc5 got me 2 more gallons of fuel due to better economy and more hp.. both cost about the same..pc5 is way easy to put in..about 30min..make your own call on that one..
yesterday rode 100 miles and did alot of WOT runs trying to hit triple digits for my first time on a sled.. hit 101mph..i was happy happy!!!when i got back to the truck my fuel light came on as i pulled up to the back of my trailer..trip meter read 99.0 miles and i had 2 bars left as i said the light just clicked on as i stopped.. so i had just under 3 gallons left according to that chart.. so i think i could get 120-130 miles to a tank easy..prolly more..

oh and my sled runs way better on 87 rather than 91.. but i think the Excell map was made that way...maybe its due to your map??? i had a bad map in my phazer for a few weeks..slow, sluggish, and bad mpg!!!

I'm curious everyone's opinion on this as well. Premium or no premium, that is the question. I always get sucked into 91 at the pumps and my friends look at me like I'm an idiot if I say I'm gonna try reg fuel. I have heard that small engines are designed and built to run reg (87 octane) fuel. What's everyone's thoughts?

Well I use a good ethanol treatment that works..so I'm not worried about the ethanol in the 87..but if I dont have my ethanol treatment I will run 91 ethanol free..but my sled runs better with treated 87 rather than non ethanol 91..i just won't run non treated ethanol fuel and I do anything I can not to..
i work in the small engine industry..ill say this..the smaller the engine the larger the poor effects of ethanol are shown in performance and reliability..

You might have splits in your 3 into 1 exhaust header. The reason I was getting a lousy 120 km's on mine. I always could get 150-160 km when the light would come on before this issue.
New exhaust header and back to normal.
I only use 91 unless not possible.

this has been talked about forever. Yamaha states reg fuel (87) why would you use anything else unless you have engine mods. waiste of money. I have a Yamaha twin engine jet boat and also run reg in it because that's what the manufacturer recommends. I have an suv that calls for 91 so that's what I put in.

Takes a while for my gauge to start dropping. Just about every single sled quad or vehicle that I've even been around does though. Bottom half of the gauge always goes quicker then the top.
I always run reg. in mine. Mine runs better on reg. as well. Performance wise there's no differance but smoothness in the way the engine runs there is.

3/4 of a tank left? I don't believe that, or your sled is f*cked. Also the bars are bigger to start with, each bar doesn't represent the same amount of fuel.
Also they have a 40 litre tank and you have a 27.
lets say for maths sake say you are paying 1.20 and they are paying 1.28
you - $32.40
them - $51.20
So your numbers don't add up.

Even if he meant they burnt 3/4 of a tank, it still adds up. We have less than 3/4 the capacity.
Plus they have to add oil, not a lot - but that new stuff ain't cheap.
You should be getting close to 100miles/160kms to a tank, depending on conditions.

Best I have seen on my MTX is 80 miles to a tank, least is 55 miles. I could probably do better then 80 but my thumb never lets me get that bored to see if I could do better. 30 miles of groomed trail and corner to corner racing with the wife, lots of wot runs and a few powder bush lines and I put 11 liters in at the pump. Did the math and it was 12.3 mpg . Doing more math and leaving a tad in the tank I know I can do 70 hard fast miles on the trail theoretically. Playing it the powder , mpg goes out the window but the fun factor goes up. I have yet to run out on any derby before the 2 strokes, even the Doo's are looking for fuel.

I looked at buddies gas receipt and he put in 20L so my mistake he was at half a tank, me I was pretty much empty, ran with the fuel light on for 20 km.
Here's the math.
Me: Price $1.29 X 27 L = $34.83
Them: Price $1.40 X 20L = $28
Difference: $34.83 - $28 = $6.83
I rode roughly 153 km on that tank, so who knows maybe my sled is f*cked. When I was cruising the lakes running a constant speed the sled would pop and bog a bit, maybe the plugs need to be changed or I need to see if there is a new map out for my hindle system, who knows.

I bet its your map, when my phazer map was all jacked up sled would top out at 60mph..i rode about 70 miles and my fuel light was on..again my wife also had a phazer and I was with her and she only used 2 bars of fuel on her gauge, so i bet u got a bad map,,disconnect your Power Commander and hook back up to the old ecu till u can get it straightened out..its easy to do..plugs are behind the radiator.. Give Excell a call, they have great nytro maps, dyno tested and proven.
