Hi All
New member here and really enjoy all the information everyone has provided.
I have an opportunity to buy a 08 low millage stock nytro 153". I currently ride a phazer and its time to hand that one off to the wife.
Will a 153" track be too much for trail riding around northern MN (ie, McGregor)
I would potentially consider cutting down the paddles too being i will never ride out west anytime.
Let me know your thoughts and I appreciate your help.

Unless it's a really good deal and you want to do some work to it. I would say no, keep in mind it's also a narrow front end and if you never ride out west you will want to shorten it to 144 max. The stock 08 skids are weak and heavy.

I would have to agree on the unless its a good deal I would pass and look for an xtx or even a 121 and you could put an extension on it if you did want a little longer track. I've got a oft 136 extension on mine and love it.
Confused?

Give yamaha parts express a email and they will trade u ur skid for their 121 and then u can mount it pretty easy... I originally looked at doing it but then I found a diff one... I love the nytro for the 20ft I road it. The only thing is that it seems to engage differently from my phazer

I ride my 153 on the trails in MN, it is a sacrafice in the corners. It is fun to have the hook up of that big lug track on the straights. You have to watch hyfax or run scratchers. There are deffinently better sleds out there for 100% trails. I like to boondock and go to the mountains so I deal with the compromise back home.

153" would work but not ideal...but more importantly, dont buy a Nytro....I always took pride in being the only one you ever see in McGregor with a Nytro!!! Lol j/k
I have a cabin by lake minnewawa, so I ride that area 5 or 6 times a season...except for maybe this year! Need snow bad!!!

You should look for an 09 as they changed the front spindle geometry for better handling.

Thanks everyone...
Now to top it off….. This sled is only $5,500 with less than 500 miles. Basically new. If the ski stance was the same width, I would consider swapping out the track and skid if I could find an even trade for that. Sounds like I’ll be better off finding a 08/09 for a few hundred bucks more that has the updates done to it. Sometimes trying to save a few bucks is a bigger hassle than it’s worth.
Have a nice Christmas!

I would agree, spend a little more now and it will save you time and money down the road. Shocks on the 08 RTX were not great but better than the MTX. If you did plan on taking it out west or planned on modifying it heavily, then it would be a different story. There will be more good deals

MTX
Or here's a thought. I am located where I can enjoy the MTX, Idaho. That's a good price. I run Simmons Gen II for floation. They work vey well on the trail. You can get them used now for $200 a set. The MTX has a tipped rail as well. How about going down to a 151? You could cut on down to 1.25 and still have your 153 for a Black Hill's trip. Or cut down a 153, Mavericks are cheap as they don't work well in spring riding out here. But I also agree the XTX or RTX would be better overall.
