hey guys,
just wondering, I have an excel full system with a PC5 (bought it that way)
I just realized the other day that my airbox was modified ( had never seen a stock one) the whole front of the airbox has been cut out and replaced with one large flat K&N filter. farr less restrictive then stock or even the 3 small hole mod.
should the PC5 be re-tuned? the stock excel map was probably written for the stock intake. I don't get the impression that I'm lean or detonating, but with the clutch rattle who knows whats going on...
any opinions?

If you bought it that way you would hope the original owner had the PC5 setup for the Excell exhaust and k +n filter. Maybe you can ask the original owner and if he didn't do it maybe someone else on here with similar setup has a map they can email you.

The original owner is kind of an #*$&@ that dumped the sled and screwed me over. Hasn't answered a single text or email since. I've put about 3000$ into getting the sled back to life on top of the purchase price, just tidying up odds and ends now.
How big a deal is this, and is there a better way to fix this then someone else's map?

That sucks. Hopefully another with a similar setup will chime in.

Im sure its fine. The airbox mods dont really add any power, so fueling shouldnt change.
My brother ran an excell header and a hollowed out stock muffler and schmidt bros airbox mod without a fuel controller last season, about 5000kms. Runs perfect
This season he added a stage 1 turbo, and has put another 4000 kms or so on the same engine and it still runs perfect. 22000 kms and still going hard.

Hurricanes air box mod added 6 peak hp and some down low...so the proper one does add HP.
I would run an auto tune to create the best map possible.

Waste of money in my opinion. If you're clutched properly your sled is never in the low end of the rpm range. The auto tune will be more money. You have to get your exhaust welded for the 02 bung, etc etc. all that for 1 hp, maybe 1 hp.
Just spend 2 grand on a used turbo kit, make some real power and be done with it if you really wanna be fast

The point of my original post was that the intake mod was made before I bought the sled and the pc5 hadn't been retuned for it.
I already have plenty of power, I'm not interested in spending money on 1 HP. I was concerned about leaning out the motor, if the retune hadn't been done. But excellent has reassured me that with their map it will still be fine.

Sorry, post was getting a little carried away there. I didn't want anyone thinking they need auto tune or anything crazy with an airbox mod
You do not need a new map anyways wth an airbox mod. It won't lean out your engine enough to do any damage. Enjoy the sled!

lean mixture might cause pinging and raise combustion temp quite a bit ...and you ride w.o.t all the time ? i do a lot of tight trail low rmp and partial trottle without a proper map on the long run you i will cause harm mechanically and performance wise ....the infamous hesitation is even more noticableSorry, post was getting a little carried away there.
