Some of you may have seen my other posts so I wont blather on about how today I picked up an 08' nytro. As I'm learning the sled I found that it has no spare belt or spare belt storage. I know that my sled is a MTX model I however don't know what belt to get?
I've poked around on ebay since the stealerships are closed now and found that belts run about $60, I remember my RX1 belt was about that as well. A heck of a lot cheaper than my polaris dragon belts which run over $100.
Two questions, are all the nytro belts the same (factory yamaha) I dont plan to buy an aftermarket belt. And, how long does a factory belt typicaly last on a stock non-boosted sled under intermediat rider conditions.
This is the yamaha part number I found for 08-12 nytros. 8DN-17641-01

get the 8dn. they are the ticket. spare belt can either be put in the stock place which is in the front storage bag in the cone or buy a cheap belt clip and rivet it ontop of your clutch cover.

I changed my belt when I bought my sled used with 600 miles. I then blew it (my first one) after putting 1200 miles on the next belt. About a third of those were boosted miles. Stock belts. $60 or $70 new from my Yammi dealer sounds about right.

That is one area we are very lucky. Yamaha has been using the same belt for fifteen years and the price is about the same today as it was then.
I moved my belt and tool kit to a storage bag on the tunnel. I think these sleds need every ounce possible moved off of the front end and this is a free way to do it.

For storage of the belt as said it goes in the bag in the nose cone but an idea I came across in a post on here somewhere or on another sled somewhere that I plan on implementing on my sled was simply cut a couple slit in the belt cover and use some velcro (hook and loop material as some refer to it as) to hold the belt on, seem like a pretty simple idea.

Ive changed over to the Ultimax xs-805 belt for my nytro and I like it way more, it has a softer compound, and seems to grip to the clutches faster/better than the 8dn. I think there is alot less clutch sheave wear also, because the belt isnt as hard of a compound. also I have very little belt dust on that side of the engine bay compared to the yamaha belt.

X2

I tried one Ultimax last year. I found no better performance, No better life, way more cost, harder to get and a harsh failure. The 8DN is cheap and will always vibrate before it's going to fail so you can swap it before it does.
Just my opinion, I tried it and I'll take my 8DN.

I dont have one of those fancy airpumps hooked up to my exhaust and intake tho
. Im sure if I had a 100 more horses in my machine I would probably want to use a harder compound belt. btw the only reason I even tried the ultimax belt was because one of the snowmobile companys here in DLG went out of business 2 years ago and everything was at half price so I paid 50 bucks each for these belts, bought 4 of them and still have 3 spares.

Funny you mention that, Out in EMO last winter I almost bought one for $50 bucks. Everything is expensive in the Villages except for Ultimax Yamaha belts aparantly.

I have an 08 with 9700 Kms and still on the original factory belt...yes the original belt. Checked the width with callipers and its fine, still riding flush to a tiny bit above the secondary. That's 50/50 trail and backcountry with lots of wot in the pow pow. I can't complain about durability with the stocker.SledWrecker said:Some of you may have seen my other posts so I wont blather on about how today I picked up an 08' nytro.
