I am looking at upgrading from my '99 SX 600 to a newer 4stroker. I have been looking at '08 and up Nytro's but, somewhere along the line I was told that they have bulkhead and steering problems. Can anyone give me some background if it in fact is true. Info like which years, is it fixable, is there a recall or update, did Yamaha fix the problem - if so, what year?

I like to ride the tight, twisty trails of Norhtern WI and MI very aggresively. However, now that I am in my early 40's I would like to get something that won't beat me up too bad after riding 200-300 miles in a day. Is the Nytro the sled I should focus on or should I be looking at something else in the Yami line-up?

Thanks for your input

Try a search for "bent subframe" and prepare to do some reading.

I will be 40 this year and after 6kmi on mine, looking forward to running it even harder for years to come. but if you want something that wont beat you up, my opinion is this is the last sled you would want. although I have bent mine, would not say its weak or needs to be any stronger. took a stupid kid ramming me off the trail into a tree to bend mine, and bent it right back, plus added plates. most equiptment will bend or break when wrecked

I think it's a great sled ,sub frame's do bend but with grizztracks sub frame kit you will have no problems. Not sure about the steering thing mine turns just fine

They are good sleds just takes some adjusting to get them right

But if you are looking for something like your sx. with better seating and suspention then vector or apex would be the sled for you

I too am in the 40's club. I also love to ride the twisty trails of northern MI. That said you need to REALLY ride the nytro aggressive in the tight twisties. It is not a very flickable sled like the phazer, lighter ski doo, or cats. It can be done with the right skies, front end set up, but you will know you muscled the thing when done riding.(it wore me out a few times) Now the sweeping cornered trails like in the U.P. it is an all out blast will rail them, nothing like that motor coming out of a corner and a 200+ mile day is no problem in my opinion. I have an 08 121" and have had no issues. I have put coin into it to make it handle like skies, ball joint mod, moved ski spacers, 1.5" lug track, suspension wheels, rsi handle bars and lake effect riser, etc. I love the sled, motor is phenominal, I have it dialed in pretty good but am always looking to improve it. I have a phazer also and it too is a riot to run. It just lacks the HP of the nytro. If you only run tight twisty trails and don't get over 70mph then the phazer is a great flickable sled. If you run the u.p. and longer wide open stretches then the nytro HP is a big advantage. Take that for what it is worth. :4STroke:

I am 42 and would not get rid of my Nytro for any other sled on the market. This has been the best sled I have ever ridden. Only ything is you really need to ride it HARD. I like it so much I am on my way to the dealership to trade in my Apex on another Nytro. If you read the forums on here you can find out what you need to do to the Nytro in order to get it to preform to the way you ride. I put Split Rail Skis on my and by far the best mod I have done, but pricey. If your ever in NE Wisconsin and we have snow you are more than welcome to try one of mine out. Shane

I am 49 and have an 08 Nytro, like srxpert stated would not sell for any other sled (specially since they have not really changed it from 08 to 13). Do the upgrades and #1 upgrade is ski's. It takes a bit to set up suspension to work for your weight and riding style but once dialed in it works great....GO Blue

thanks to all who responded to this post I did buy the Nitro and love it im planning to do several mods but from the factory it's been a great sled and will enjoy it for many years to come thanks guys hope you have fun this season
