How would you guys go about porting a Maverick track?
Can you just use a hole saw?
Do you think this will help with slider wear at all?
I bought my sled with 200 miles and the sliders are gone near the front wheels. I know slider wear has been discussed but I haven't found any concrete solutions yet.
Also this sled will be seeing some groomed trail/river/lakes.
Thanks.

Porting will increase hyfax wear. It works okay for deep snow or unpacked snow. Spring snow or hard pack will have a tendency to not lubricate the hyfax as much because the snow does not stay in the skid as well. Yes, you can use a hole saw, but I don't know if it is worth the effort or not do to the afoe mentioned reasons..

two schools of thought here. yes the porting will let more snow out but, it works both ways... it lets more in as well. as long as the snow is loose, you should have more lubing the hyfax. ski

Thanks for the replies,
I'm looking more to extend my sliders during times of harder snow.
I won't be porting then.

had mine ported on my Rev, went 2000 miles...never had to change the hyfax...310 miles not ported track on my Nytro had to replace my hyfax...
dont think it has much to do with it out west...but what do I know...

If my memory serves me right Skidoo runs a much wider and thicker hyfax than Yamaha. The purpose of porting the tracks was to let more snow out of the rear skid thereby having less "running weight". There are a lot of factors that attribute to hyfax wear ie, track tension, lubrication, hyfax material/design. The most notable being lack of lubrication. IMO, in hard pack conditions, ice scrathers are a must and will prolong hyfax wear tremendously (scrathers reduce engine temps also).

I've got the scratchers on the rails, I'll see how it goes I guess.

Black diamond xtreme is selling a track porting tool. Looks like a decent unit for anyone going that route. Here's the link http://bd-xtreme.com/bdxpro-liteseriest ... gtool.aspx
