So found a shovel with a short detachable handle in the closet this summer that was gunna get thrown out so I kept it thinking it would be perfect for my snowmobile. Well the other night I thought I would try to find a place under the hood to mount, like maybe the clutch cover or something......

Well in an act of serendipity, I set it down over the taillight and bingo found my spot. The shovel head fit nicely on top of the taillight and resting under where the exhaust comes out. I placed the handle under the shovel head and used a 4 ft zip tie and the side reflectors to secure it down. It sets on the taillight just right and barely hangs over so it doesn't block it at all. This zip tie is big enough that it is easy to use a fingernail of tip of knife to release the tab and undo the tie without cutting it.

I do carry 1 or 2 spares with the belt and tools in the event it breaks. The shovel head doesn't get any warmer than the plastics surrounding the exhaust tip so the exhaust will not be an issue. The zip tie holds it snug enough that it won't wiggle at all and should ride well even in the rough conditions.

If the shovel was a bit darker it would almost look like part of the sled.

So the handle is under the exhaust on top of the track? I'd be afraid in a big bump situation it might contact the track and cause some damage. Got any under tunnel pics?

Nope, the handle sits across the top of tunnel underneath the shovel head. Sorry if I led to some confusion. It is that black piece that can be seen sticking out from the side of the shovel near the reflector there. The handle top is on the other side (I'll try and snap a picture tomorrow). The shovel end slips under the plastic shroud surrounding the exhaust tip and prevents it from moving forward, back or side to side and the tie holds everything down real tight so nothing as much as wiggles. I may even use the empty space inside the shovel to tuck a tow rope under there.

I am sure this wouldn't work with some aftermarket exhausts and seats as it would not have the shroud to fit up against but for those of us looking for a simple way to place a shovel on our sleds with the stock exhaust shroud and taillight this is just an idea I thought I would share.

If you can find a black plastic shovel, I think it would definately blend!

I considered painting it but thought it was close enough to the color it would look better like it is rather than try and paint it. I can't complain too much since all it cost me was some zip ties. And it is sure gunna save a lot of headache WHEN I get it stuck ;):D
