Hey guys, anyone reccomend a good flip-up helmet. I have a conventional HJC CL-12 which is in my opinion is awesome.. .the only thing is I hate taking it off and "breaking the seal" to have a smoke/drink/food etc. I know the Bombardier helmets had some issues in the early days but I am looking for a good suggestion.....HJC has one are they any good? Do I still need an electric shield?? Are they Warm? Feedback is appreciated.

I have the HJC and love it. Yes it is warm and I don't use an electric shield. It is easier to open than the Shoei it replaced.

Go with a Lazer Blizzard modular helmet. Full face flip up, breath deflector. No fog at 15 below.

Lazer makes both the Ski-Doo modular and the Yamaha modular helmets. They both use basically the same shell just different front chinbars and lense designs. The Lazer Blizzard is the same helmet as the Yamaha modular and Lazer also makes that helmet for AGV who sells it also under the Blizzard name. The Ski-Doo helmet has vents out the side which tend to freeze over due to moisture when cold and the breath mask has snaps to hold it on that tend to break. The Ski-Doo however has a sunshade built into the visor which is cool but this feature adds to the price of the helmet which tends to run about $100-150 higher than the other styles. All the modular styles work great as far as fogging is concerned as long as you wear the breath deflector and it fits you properly.

Might I suggest, Keep your current helmet. Give up smoking, and when you go into a pit stop to get something to eat and drink, just take your helmet off.

does anyone know if anybody makes a 4x or custom built helmet? If just one manufacturer would make a 4x, they would make a fortune. There has to be alot of riders with large heads.

I have an HJC symax flip-up helmet w/heated shield. I can't stand the breath deflector-face mask outfit so I took that out. Other than that it is a very nice helmet. Slim

I've heard bad about the HJC flip up. If you go HJC, make it a standard helmet.

I have the DOO modular and in 2 years no problems and the pull down visor is the greatest thing ever. I may be going to the new style if I can find one on super sale.

I also have 2 of the Ski Doo Modular helmets and if you use the provided equipment correctly I have never fogged up even without a heated shield. -40 degrees before windchill and the only issue I may have is you need to wear a face sock to keep you upper cheeks warm. You also need to keep buying those little cotton pads to go into the face mask if not the condensation builds up in there and it will make you cold from the water.

My father bought a 4X through HJC, I believe. It is a standard type of helmet not the modular though.

Quick answer for you 2 jokers.....Ahhh NO!
This is why you don't want to take your helmet off too much!Dukester was wearing the Doo modular when he had the major fogging problem in Canada. At -45 degrees F the tubes would plug in about 20 minutes. He got frost bite taking the helmet off to defrost and clear the tubes.
To those of you who actually had something useful to say...Thanks guys helps out alot. I like the HJC and I find the DOO helmets wayyy over priced. I can pick up an HJC right now for a good price.
