Hey-anybody else noticed these details in regards to their new sleds?? Owners manual states that min. octane for my new RTX is 88. Manufacturer sticker on tunnel rearward of VIN states 91 as min. :? Also the specs. page on the RTX(Yamaha-motor.com) states the dry weight for the RTX w/rev as 548lbs. In the manual it is listed as 578lbs. :? Be it minor, the last thing we needed was for our sleds to have gained 30lbs during final production.

Yes I noticed! Two different octane methods. The 88 is RM/2 where as the 91 is RON. As far as I know we only see the RM/2 in the U.S.A. The difference in the RTX weight could be with and without reverse or even with out oil and coolants for all we know.

Go with the minimum octane that is at the pump, you won't have any problems. I wouldn't worry about the weight. It handles nice and is easy to ride.

I would like to go with the lowest octane at the pump - just to rub it in to my buddies all still on 2 strokes filling up with 93 and expensive oil everytime.
Might have paid more than them in the begining but should get some substantial returns in these little ways.

The engine in this sled will easily outlast the chassis.

Hi mr plow,my attak has the insert in the manual that states 596 now this is semi wet weight,as all sleds shiped from yamaha already have fluids in shocks chaincase oil 4-stroke oil for the engine brake oil and coolant, but when they list DRY weight, that is what they get very DRY no fluids at all,and the rtx was the only one to be avaliable w/out reverse, and they want us to believe it is worth 9 lbs,i think they have added the weight savings of the fox floats plus the lack of the reverse plus DRY weight to get the rtx to 548 now add the above things plus 21lbs for all fluids and what do ya have 578 now add 10 gal.of gas at between 6-7 lbs so another 60 to 70 lbs 643# if we split the diff.on gas at 6.5lbs i am betting fully topped off that is what you will have and around 665# on an Attak..Mrplow said:Hey-anybody else noticed these details in regards to their new sleds?? I'm gonna go with the Fitch fuel Catalyst which increases the octane and thereby allows you to use 87 octane at the pump. Over several season this alone will pay for the catalysts !

You don't need any catalyst, 87 octane is fine, leave it alone.

Thanks everyone, good feedback. I will probably usually go with the mid-
grade(89).
grade(89).
I was at the Big East show asked the Yammi rep there about the octane he said run 87.

Ole Timer that is not true. You can get more power out of 87 then 93. 93 just prevents pre-igintion.
