Octane and Weight??????????

IMO it’s a waist of money running higher octane fuel unless you have the compression and timing to make use of it. Its hard to retrain our habits after coming off 2-strokes where fuel quality can be crucial. For 4-strokes? grab the cheapest gas you can find and you’ll have miles and miles of trouble free riding without the faintest worry of detonation!

Ole Timer that is not true. You can get more power out of 87 then 93. 93 just prevents pre-igintion.

You are exactly right. i dont know how many people are wasting there money on Premium or octane booster when there machine is set up to run on 87. I have this argument on a regular basis. The other thing about premium is not as many people buy premium so alot of the times the premium they think they are buying is bad and not actually at 92 or 93 anymore.

I ran 87 all the time i had my 03 rx1 and my best time/speed was w/this grade if you cant squeeze the fuel the high octane will hurt you more than help, and i had 5,000 miles on my 03 all w/reg.grade gas except for the time i tried a tank of premium, never again.. :yam:

Gary at Maxximum Performance told me that if you run at 87 octane some of the 03 RX-1s will gum up and it will reduce performance by a lot. The only way to fix it is to use an additive. Maybe even running at higher octane will help clean it out. Anyone else hear this? This guy is supposed to be the man when it comes to Yamaha 4-stroke sleds.
