Oil drain access plate question

A heavier duty aluminum oil drain access plate is available from Barn of Parts for the earlier 06 to 08 Apexs as a replacement for the factory plastic access plate.A belly pan skid plate is worthwhile insurance to help protect the oil pan from an impact.

I would just add a skid plate and not worry about the access plate. If I was looking at a 2010 and making a large list of upgrades as being needed, I would buy a 2011 and most upgrades already done plus EPS! Add ons I feel are needed are skid plate, snowtrackers, the duponts are optional. You may add a bulkhead saver if you desire and because I have a XTX I have the star kit installed. 10,000 miles later, the donuts are tight, the bushings are tight, the steering has no slop and it already has a riser.

My 09 Apex has the smaller 4 x4 inch aluminum oil drain access plate.
I agree with Sasquatch that a skid plate is all that is really necessary. Being kinda OCD,I put the aluminum access plate plus a Yamaha accessories plastic belly pan skid plate on mine for maximum protection for the engines oil pan from a stump or rock.
Plan to do oil lite bushings and bulkhead saver kit.
Both my sleds I installed an Arctic Cat /Viper Normally Closed tether switch.Kills the motor if you fall off the sled and saves the engine if the sled were to rev on its side or upside down, run out of oil and ruin the engine.Or runaway sled.
My insurance offers a discount for sleds tether equipped.Surprized sleds dont come from from the factory with tethers as standard equipment.

Tethers where replaced with tors. Agree or not I do know many who hooked their tether to their key. I was one because it was a pain to hook up to a tether when your suit or gloves had no place to hook it too! Maybe tors came alone to stop that and make throttle stuck open problem go away.

Yup, I would be adding the plastic skid plate right off the bat if I got one. My vector has a blue one. And the bulk head saver kit

I agree with Sasquatch that tethers are a practical pain to use and lots people likely never used them. For me its a personal choice of cheap insurance that if I fall off the sled it and it rolls over it will shut down the $ 5000 motor and save it from oil starvation.TORS is a great safety feature for a stuck throttle situation.Wouldnt suprize me if TORS was implemented where people may neglect to always use tethers.
