who changed the filter? Did u make sure the old seal was removed before screwing on the new filter?

Just had oil filter fail on me last Friday. Same thing with a riding buddy a month ago. Start with checking filter.

That clip holds the side vent on the side cowl/panel.
Funny cause those are a bitch to get off when you want to.

Oil tank cracking is a common problem, but to my knowledge it occurs after higher mileage. Mine went after 10, 000miles. I second the idea of checking the filter 1st.

I changed the filter myself in the fall,i have changed many,i always check the oring, making sure the old one isnt on there, plus i rode over 2000 miles with no issues then it all started this weekend so i ruled out the filter

How much oil came out? Reason I ask is I had the same issue last spring, stopped at a crossing and it was literally pouring out the bottom of the sled. I topped it off and managed to get it back to the truck which was a mile away. At the time, I had a new aftermarket oil tank seeing mine was leaking and I had ran all winter with no issues. Over the summer I checked the oil filter, it was fine, I checked all the hoses and they all seemed fine. I did end up changing the main oil line that comes from the bottom of the engine to the tank with a hose from local hydraulic place seeing yamaha wanted approx $100 for a new one.

The bottom oil hose seemed fine, but I ended up changing it anyways seeing it was covered in oil. So I still didn't find out exactly what happened, but I did top off the oil that morning before I left. I did read that if you overfill the tank sometimes it will push it out through the breather in the air filter. This is what I am suspecting seeing it hasn't happened since.

Did you top it off with oil recently? I ran it all this winter and no issues to date.

Well looks like you will have to tear into it and check everything out.

Let us know how you make out.

If oil gets in the air box I believe the drain hose is on the clutch side. Did the sled get tipped on its side recently?
