Yup, I took the strainer off, there was a metal shaving or two on it, and what looked like a small piece of fuzz or lint, otherwise it was good. Put some fuel in it, shook it around some more, nothing. I am going to dry it out now, put it back in, and tomorrow put some oil in it. My dipstick should be here anytime now. I want to measure the oil I put back in it, and what I have left, once I get my part.

FWIW, when I change oil I put in 3 quarts, run it for a bit, then check and top off as neccassary.

In the manual it says 3 liters with oil filter replacement, 2.8 without, and 3.8 l total. Where is the extra oil from, topping it off?

The 3.8 is when the engine is brand new with "Zero" oil in it.
I agree, it is confusing and people probably overfill their sleds based on this info.
Like I have mentioned before, I always raise the front of my sled up with a floor jack after I have completed or in the process of doing an oil change and I can usually get another 1/4 to 1/2 a litre of used dirty oil out of the tank, drain plug and filter areas.
On refill, I add about 2-1/2 litres of oil to the tank only, run sled for a few minutes or until it is warm/hot, then check my level after it has been shut off a minute or so.
I usually have to add another 1/2 litre, and maybe a touch more sometimes to get it at the top of the full mark on the dipstick.
Works for me and I have been doing it this way for 3 yrs since I have owned the sled.
(My sled is a Vector so the filter is beside the engine drain plug and not in front of the engine like an Apex and some others)

Dipstick is finally here, got some snow4racing 4t oil, 0w40 full syn. oil also. A question comes to mind, the sled only has 1900 miles, is it too soon for full syn. oil?

I have been running Mobil 1 full syn in the Vector right from day one. ( first 500 mile change) No issues, nor would I expect any.

I heard some reports on vehicles that they should not run full synthetic from new, that the motor needed to wear in first before using the full synthetic. I have never used the stuff before, and my last vehicle I sold was running strong at 386 000 km using dino oil, lol.
Tomorrow I will have her running again then, hope to put on some miles on Saturday as long as it is not too cold or lonely out.

Turns out it was not far off. I took 3 liters of oil out of the tank, and put 2.2l back in. Before and after my 88 mile ride yesterday the oil showed about halfway between low and full, so I think I could probably put at least another 200 ml in, which means there was about 400 ml of extra oil in it.
I just remembered when I brought the sled back from the mechanic, I tried backing it off the trailer, and was stuck front end up, motor running. I was pulling it off backward, when one of my lights on the dash lit up. This may be when I got some misting of oil on my filter. I turned it off right away, let it sit level a few minutes, and fired it up with no more problems.
Groomer had just gone in a few areas, so I had some beautiful super speedways to work with, lol. Very few riders out yesterday.
