After my first ride my oil turned a milky looking. Drained the oil and new filter. Took a small sample
And sent it to Blackstone Labs. Got the report back no anit-freeze but it did have water in the oil.

I have been starting the engine during the summer several time. I think that has cause moisture to
Build up and deposit in the oil.

What I do is change the oil in the spring after the riding season and run the engine once a month during
The summer. I have read pro and con on this guess I’ll go back to not doing that. I have been told not change the oil summer but in the late fall so this becomes less a problem.

If you are interested in such a report Blackstone Labs www.blackstone-labs.com

Cost is $28. For simple test
I tired to copy and paste the report but it would not paste correctly
Happy as #*$&@ it was not anit-freeze

How long Did you run it in the summer? Did you happen to notice the coolant temp?

Guys in the go fast boating world all suggest changing the oil after the season, and not letting the old oil sit in the engine for the off session. They state that used oil has chemical characteristics that will corrode/eat internals if left for long periods.

I would let it get up to 145 deg- going from memory
I could change the oil in summer not start it up? With dry sump not much oil in these engines

I am not an expert, but I would suggest getting it hotter, at least until the fan kicks on. This would help burn off moisture. Some people say that If you crank it occasionally and dont work it, you are doing more harm then good. I'm not sure I agree.

If you are worried about keeping the engine oiled, you could hit the kill switch and crank it over until enough oil is circulated. (These vipers are the first machine I have ever seen that you can crank while the kill switch is tripped)

Reality it's that you will probably own a different sled way before you would ever notice any difference in engine life/performance no matter what you do on regards to summer storage!

Tom dont quit whats been working so good for you for many years, but let it get hotter I let mine run at 180 for a couple minutes, I dont care what anyone says, I do same for snowblower and mower and never have problems with seasonal machines, been working for 30yrs..........
If you want a good test, change your system and see if you start haveing any problems,starter-battery-carbs, etc.. I also wopp the throttle jacked up to let grease in bearings get moved around a little also....

The reports stated that the oil was still in good condition and no damage to bearing would be related?
I think I will use the same program run it hotter as Larry suggested, just be a wear there could be a problem
