Ok it's dumb, but how many miles should I put o my dive belt

Belts

The original one on my Warrior went at 2200 miles. It shredded and wrapped around the clutches. It took an hour to get all the pieces out of the clutches on the trail. What a pain. I now have 2000 miles on the one in my sled and am going to change it this week.

What is proper break in procedure for a new belt ?
Under most conditions, normal riding is as good as any break-in procedures.
If you blow it in the middle of a long highspeed run, however, I recommend varying the throttle until you get back in the woods. Same if you blow while breakin' trail in the deep stuff.
IMO the best thing to break in a new belt is not to abuse it immediately. After 50 miles or so, all bets are off!

I have 8000 miles on the belt on my RX-1 and it still measures well within specs.. I take the belt off after ever long multi day ride and inspect it. DON"T use it until it fails. That a dumb way to treat your sled. If you blow the belt, it makes a mess and you run the risk of damaging parts and leaving you stranded.

This is not in defense for calling my approach dumb. thats not my style.

Did you put your 8000 mi. belt back on? I agree, there can be problems associated with blown belts, but there are plenty of things on our sleds that could go wrong at any point.
One time I checked my chain lube before riding and the chaincase munched due to a gasket failure that occured that ride! Stuff happens.
I seldom blow belts. they usually give subtle hints that you can feel. Slight thumping occurs when the belt starts to come apart. I could not imagine changing a belt yearly or at anything under 4000mi. unless it gets smoked from getting stuck or some other serious abuse. and I bet you agree.
run it run it run it :exc:

I use to hear that you should take your belt off at nights if its really cold outside !
This is something BRP recommended a few years back !

On my Apex my Rpms start to rise from low to mid 10's to high tens usually around 3-5 miles in my 11k of experience.

I have a new one hanging on the wall, cause RPM's are up again.

I got 6600 miles out of my original belt and there's almost 3000 on the current one. Life expectancy is related to how you ride the sled. I am usually pretty easy on takeoffs and dont ride off trail a lot (though I have been more lately). If you are romping on it all the time and running deep snow then I would change it once per year.

My spare belt came off my RX-1 and it has 7000 miles on it but still looks good.

I'm amazed at the mileage this thread has gotten. Not to mention some of the belts. Just jokin......couldn't resist.

Mine would last longer if I could remember to release the E brake!!! Need to paint that lever orange!!!

- X2 on that!
- We were playing in the hills yesterday, and I forgot mine was on and when about 200yds. :drink:

- About an hour later I was WOT across the lake and noticed that I couldn't get up to speed???

- Anyways, when we stopped, I noticed that the belt had "frayed" and when I lifted the cover for a looksee, the belt was ready to go.

- Put on the spare, and was good to go. ;)!
- Heading to the dealer for a new one today.

- Is the 8DN the normal Yammy belt??

i have 1500 miles on my original, I had my belt off last weekend, and I didnt even see any signs of wear. No dust in the bay or any grime or marks on my sheaves either.

Im used to blowing a belt once every trip on my old AC TCat, lol.
