OK I want to buy a turbo, boondocker so far, I am only looking right now to get as much hp without doing any headshimming etc, I just want to put on the turbo, and go, I was told that the boondocker is giving out of the box 8 to 10lb of boost, making my Apex Mt get about 230 ave hp.

Now All I would like to know is their another turbo that is better than the boondocker on price and installation, as I do not want rear mount turbo, I heard about alpine, so I would like to know how well this alpine is compaired to the boondocker.

I have a friend that runs the boondocker now, and leaning toward the boondocker because he has said all good stuff with his, and he is pushing more hp, but he had wished he just left the motor alone, and ran the boondocker turbo out of the box.

So please only post if you have boondocker or alpine, and please show pics.

Thanks in advance.
Bret

The boondocker on my rx-1 has worked awesome all season. installed in about 10 hours. i ride at 10K - 13K feet, so the engine is bone stock on 91 octane and 10 pounds boost. took a few rides to get jetting dialed in and did not have to mess with it after that. i would suggest insulating the turbo and exhaust to minimize under hood heat. also insulate the bottom of carbs so they do not absorb any extra radiant heat from the oil tank. my only complaint is that i relocated my battery a few years ago to make oil filter changes easier and now i have to remove the oil tank to change the oil filter. not any worse than it was stock. and the exhaust noise is a little on the loud side for the rider on the trails. but not as loud for riders around you.
You might also think about the MPI stage 1 super charger for your apex. their fuel controler is easy to use and tune. it is more $, but less stuff to leak and has sick throttle response

My boondocker apex has run flawlessly all year. Mine is a short track with 9:1 pistons, used mostly for lake racing, but did manage to get a few trail miles on too. Went to dynotech, last week, and made 360 hp with the gt28 and boondocker injectors. Check out the mention in the blog at dynotechresearch.com. The control box has allowed me to maintain low speed drivability with the large injectors required to make this kind of power.

you may get away with running 10 lbs on pump fuel with no extra gaskets or shims for awhile but it will get you sooner or later. if you want to run that kind of boost you had better run good fuel or lower compression, I have seen many stock motors go down on 8 to 10 lbs boost rx1,s and apex,s, this has been descussed several times here, and it doesn,t matter who,s kit it is, the motor doesn,t know who biult the kit and 10lbs is 10lbs regardless of were the kit came from.

I think you would be better off in the long run to just take it to a shop and have them install the head shim and slot the timing gear.

Does this hold true if you ride above 10,000 ft 100% of the time? Thanks ===SRXSRULE===

yes I ride at 10,000 and I now guys that have burnt down at this altitude at 8 to 10 lbs, everybody knows somebody that has gotten away with it. I know guys that have run all year no problems and then I now guys that have lost there motor in 200 miles its your choice.
