ANYONE USING YAMAHA WEIGHTS FROM A OLDER SLED ON THEIR RX-1 FOR BETTER PERFORMANCE? I'M SURE I RAN INTO SOMEONE LAST YEAR THAT TOLD ME THEY HAD FOUND A GOOD WEIGHT FROM A PAST SLED THAT WORKED AS GOOD AS THE HEEL CLICKERS & HEAVY HITTERS THAT HE HAD TESTED!
ANYONE WITH INFO WOULD BE GREAT!!!
THANKS!!!

I would have been one of the people that would have told you that very thing regarding using some other Yamaha clutch weights. I found the stock weights rather lathargic when going corner to corner on twisty trails.
I had used the Dalton weights and found that my sled was WAY snappier than with the stock weights but ran with more RPM on the trail than I liked. I wanted to continue to use the heaviest primary spring I could (so I could throw more weight at the motor) so I decided I needed more tip weight to increase the top end and decrease trail speed RPM.
I had a set of 98 MSRX weights (8DN-00) laying around. The Dalton weights use the Yamaha 8DN profile. They found it was the best compromise. The MSRX was 140+ h.p. as well and it had a huge ball peen hammer like tips. I tried them and got the same snappy acceleration with the results I was looking for on the trail. I was absolutely sold that this was the best weight for me. They are a load of fun. Then I decided to try the heavy hitters after looking at this site.
That afternoon I swapped from Dalton 55.5, 57.5, 8DN-00. 89A-10, and the H.H. I tried most of the Dalton and several suitable Yamaha springs as well. Personally I like the stock Yamaha O/S/O the best. This was on a RX-1 mountain with a 2 1/4" finger track at about 3,300 feet on a mountain valley airstip. I had a fabulous bottom end with most of the weights with a top end indicating right around 86 mph.
Then I put in the Heavy hitters just to disprove the hype surrounding them. I was sure I could sell them to someone WHEN I proved they didn't work. First run out of the blocks I saw 102 mph indicated in the same distance. WOW! I thought this must be mistake. I tried it again and again. Same thing! Huh? Maybe there is something to this hype.
The beauty is they are easily adjustable. If you're overeving in the midrange, well then add some more weight to the MIDDLE hole. If you are underrevving on the top end, then remove a bit of weight from the hole in the tip. It's really that simple.
I still have a box of Yamaha weights. I'm not sure what will become of them but I am looking for a better weight for my wifes Phazer 500.
Sorry for the book.
PS: Will a semi stock (non turboed) RX-1M pull the 8BU-00 weights? I remember trying them on my MSRX at about 5,000 feet. The incredible pull on the bottom end tried to pull my arms out of their sockets but with empty weights I could only pull about 7,700-7,800 on top when 8,500 was my target. They also have a bird beak like tip if I remember correctly. Does that negatively influence top end potential?

Take a look at my modifided 8fa's. I planed some what of a curve on them. Don't know if it will work yet.

1XR, wow! I have never seen that done before. I sure hope that added piece doesn't come off at a high RPM though. Is it welded?

Will a semi stock RX-1 adequately pull 8BU-00 weights? I have to try to do it at altitude as well.

No that blob of stuff on one of the weights is not weld, it's a lead 7 gram pin on the unground weight.
