Hi all.. First just want to say that this is a GREAT website! Been lurking and reading quite a bit.

I recently picked up an '03 RX1 with 9800 miles on it. It was $3200. The guy I bought it from didn't seem to know much about it. I had seen several for sale before this one, even saw the exact same sled at Port Yamaha for $2900 that also had 9000 miles on it, but it had a cracked hood. Regardless, it sold very quickly. I saw other RX's priced higher but with 1/2 the miles. Some guys I have talked to said I paid too much for it. Others say the price is "ok"

The sled has some add-ons. It has a M10 suspension and Ohlin shocks (not the "stock" shocks) and what looks like a ripsaw track with 96 studs. It also has an aftermarket heater for the handlebars in addition to the stock heated grips, and a saddlebag for storage. It seems to run good, and seems "solid".

The guy that sold it to me said he bought it last year for his wife, but it's "too fast" for her and she was scared of it.

I contacted the DNR and they gave me the names of all the former owners, so I found the original owner and he was very cool and didn't mind that I contacted him. He told me that he had put most of those miles on it himself and that he was suprised it didn't have a lot more by now. He said he goes up to the UP (upper Michigan) and puts 5000 miles on a sled in one winter and that this sled has seen mostly long trail riding and was never "beat". He says also that it had 9000 miles on it in 2006 when he sold it.
He said he spent a LOT of money on this sled for the mods and also did some bearing upgrade on the clutch after 3000 miles. He did say that this year RX1 was known to use oil and told me to be sure to check the oil often, as I guess the rings on this model were not as good as later models.

It seems odd that it's only had 800 miles put on it since??

I guess it really does not matter now because I bought it, but I'm thinking I might have paid a bit much for it...

Comments/Thoughts?

I would say the price is OK. I got my 05 with 3000 miles for 3100 a couple of months ago. But I don't have an m10 or Ohlins....

Thanks for the reply.

I'm guessing by your username that you're also a Ford fan? I had a 4-cam 281 in my old Mach1. My current 4-cam is a 331.. ;)!

I would say you did fine for this time of year with the options it has on it.

Ohlin's, upgraded handwarmers and M 10 equipped is worth at least $ 600 over a stocker and $2,500 would be a steal for a stocker.

Sounds like you bought a Very Good sled for a good price.

Enjoy !!!!!!!!!

:4STroke: :rocks:

I think your price was fair as well. The rings were not as good as latter models but dont worry about it just add oil and ride it. I bet it does not use that much anyhow.

Oil consumption issues are not across the board. Some have, some dont, some just a little. Unless its sucking down oil as fast as a skidoo, don't worry about it.

Yup, I have an 01 Cobra. You have a GT500?

You did fine.

Are you happy with it. Is it what you wanted?? If it is be happy and ride when the snow comes.

you did pretty well. that is what stock ones with 1/2 that milage are getting around here. i just picked up 04 rx warior ltd for my youngest brother used for $3400.00 taxed and lic with 19700km on it i pretty wicked shape other than it needed a track.

Yea, 2010... Also have a '94 Cobra but it's a pushrod motor of course...
The '10 traps 130+ in the 1/4. (TVS/2.59 upper/CJ TB)
To get this reply somewhat on-topic, part of the reason I wanted an RX1 is to have something somewhat fast to ride while the 'stangs are hibernating....

Yes and yes, but you know how it is when you've been looking for something. It seems like after you do pull the trigger, then you see something else and wonder if you did the right thing... I guess a guy could drive himself crazy with that logic though...

Dude I do that all the time!!!! ha
Seems u cant find what your looking for cheap until
AFTER you buy it!!!

Sure can. I sold my Ski Doo in March and waited for the right deal for my RX. That didn't come until August.

If I were you, I'd definitely do an oil change. Chances are that the fellow you were talking on the phone with was the last person to do an oil change on it. It was probably not touched mechanically at all from the guy you bought it from either since it has so few miles.

Go through everything, ie. Bearings, plugs, chaincase oil, grease, sliders, carbides, bushings, etc. Just for peace of mind.
