I was going to break my sled in on the hard side and then change the oil at around 80 miles. Yesterday I was at my dealer buying a new helmet, I had a long talk with the service manager. He said it would be o.k. to break it in that way but, no long w.o.t. runs until, about 300 miles. But he said 'NOT to change the oil for the first time until 500 miles. He said if I change it to early, the new oil won't let the rings seed properly. So now I dont know what to do with the oil. Do you guys think he has a good point ?....

I remember in high school auto, the tech saying the same thing. That the break in is the final machining of the engine. That the oil will pick up a "sluce" of hard materials, and burnish the engine in.

I just bought my sled, the manual says 500 miles though.

Just about everyone I know went to about 500 miles before the first change, I would say just go with that. Have fun with the oil filter!!

Drive a big scewdriver through it (carefully!). Don't even waste your time with strap wrenches etc. Put lots of rags below it to catch all the drips after you've got it loose.

It's funny how some choose to follow one part of the manual while ignoring another part :drink:
