My friend got a ticket for improper reg. number display on his sled from a parks & rec guy in cranberry lake NY. are these tickets BS or not??? I heard from a few people that said they had 2 or 3 tickets and they never sent in the fine or showed up for court. they said they registered their sleds, renewed their licenses over a 1-2 yr span after the tickets... and never heard anything more about the tickets. are they(parks & rec.) just looking for the gulable riders that would just send in the fine payment without question??

He is just getting into snowmobiling at 37 yrs old & get this, he just bought the sled last yr. and it is a 1995 sled that has had the same registration stickers for 11 yrs without a problem(he bought sled from a relitive). sleds 1995 & older don't have state issued reg stickers.
the parks guy said it didn't have big enough numbers on it & they weren't reflective. after looking at his numbers & mine(state issued sticker) I noticed that his numbers are bigger than mine because my total sticker is 3" high and the actual numbers on the sticker are much smaller, about 1.5" - 2". This guy didn't even offer a warning to my friend which had no clue about the problem.
my friend did'nt even mention that his wife was a trooper. also he saw that my friend was a Corr. officer when he noticed his badge while getting out the registration. maybe he has something against law enforcement people that make more $$ than he does??? kinda seems like cheap(low down) ticket to me.

Ticket

I believe that 1996 was last year by law that you could legally run boat numbers on the hood with the small yearly registration sticker. Any sled after that year is required to have the new 3x5 decal affixed to the hood. It has been a while, I believe it was around that time. I assume from your statement it was NYS Park Police. Some are writing people up, others let it slide. All depends on the mood that day.
As for forgetting about the ticket. Man you better talk to your buddies wife or a lawyer. It still a ticket. If the judge and DA decide to come after him it could get nasty.

BA, tickets are tickets. I bet if he gets pulled over for speeding he might find a bench warrant for his arrest. Letting tickets go like this is not a good idea. This stuff even shows up on your credit report and can effect getting a job. I don't know his personal status and if he cares about all that but the bench warrant is not fun when the cop says to his wife..... Can you drive mame' we need to take your husband in on an outstanding warrant. Doug

I think the reflective part can be argued as all colors reflect light to some degree. I think you could prabably successfully fight it on your first offense, but is it really worth it?

PARK POLICE TICKETS

Have some experience with this. Does the ticket have a number on it? The last Part Police ticket I saw did not. No number it does not get recorded. Did it have his Driver's License # on it? I don't think so. I have had friends disregard these and never had any problem.

I have heard of people forgeting about the ticket & nothing happened. just wondering if it happened to anyone here.

NY State Park Police have more power than Troopers. They can enforce all normal law plus conservation law. That ticket is as real as a ticket can be.

I'm sure State police can enforce amy law. Which means equal power.

People in Mich. think CO's have more power because they abuse the power they have, and violate the law. Check points are illegal in Mich., and CO's set up snowmobile check points.

well my buddy talked to a few people that said the fine would be low, so he allready mailed in the ticket with an explanation that his numbers were a little small.
he got back the fine in the mail and it was $100+$55 NYS court surgarge fee.
When you measure the actual numbers on his sled, they are biggier than the ones NYS supplies. it's just the reflective block around the numbers is "3 high.
this bullsh$t ticket cost a new sledder $155, now it's left a bad taste in his mouth about snowmobiling. not sure if he'll buy a sled next yr or not.

Yup, take it to court. Officer wont show anyway, and if he does, it sounds like it would be thrown out. I WOULD NOT just pitch it and forget about it.
