Does anybody own one and spend the majority of their time riding it in the MidWest? I have been looking at getting one to replace an older trail sled. Not sure what it would be like riding on trails and local lakes. I want to start going out west to the Big Horn Mountains and ride with my family. Having at least one mountain type sled would be nice. I have a Phazer GT now and love it.

Anybody want to add their thoughts?

I snowchecked an '09 Phazer MTX and have about 300 miles on it so far over the last two weeks.

I am still breaking it in so I haven't been riding it real hard yet, but so far I like it. I actually put on the bulk of the miles up in your neck of the woods last week Monday and Tuesday.

I also make one or two trips out to the big horns each year as well. I had a '05 Rage and really liked that sled, but got sick of changing jets when we went out west.

So far I like the Phazer and it is working out well as a crossover type sled. Can't slide it through the corners like the 121's but I like the stability.

I got the wife a 2008 MTX last year and we put over 1200 miles on it. All in Mi and on trails 90% of the time. All I did was put in the "sea level" clutch weights in the primary. The first 80 miles I put on and burnt the hifax at least halfway. I then got a set of scratchers for it and we never had a problem for the remainder of the year. I rode it as well and it does fine in the trails, just not going to keep up with anyone over 70 mph. The biggest complaint I have is the rear and front but mostly the rear skid shocks. Non rebuildable and way too soft, just not even close. So with that if you get one I wouldn't even ride it with the stockers just plan on geting some aftermarket stuff (front and rear) and it really would be a blast.

Where did you mount your scratchers? I just bought a pair, and it seems you would have to mount them behind the spring idler wheel. I figured this would be too far back to do much good. I was thinking about mounting them just behind the curve of the skid and ditching the idlers. Just curious what you did.

I just picked up a used 07 Mountain. My 12 year old is using it, moving up from his 340. Long track, deeper lugs, make it easier for him to keep up with me and the others we ride with in MN ditches and off trail. Electric start and 4 stroke were major pluses as well. Having some trouble with cold starts, but overall a good fit. I ride an 09 M8, and like to get on the Phazer. Very fun to ride and handle. We are planning on bringing it out West to Mt Jefferson area in a couple weeks.

I have read that quite a few people thought the stock shocks were too soft... they upgraded the shocks on my '09 and so far on the trail I think the ski shocks and the front shock in the skid frame are too stiff. However I haven't played around with it yet either. I am going to soften them up and see if it feels different, but so far I like the sled.

Lots of torque down low... not a speed demon, but I don't really need to go 90mph, I would rather have the lower end for playing around.

My Curve XS skis are going to go on this week and that should help the trailability of the sled as the MTN skis are pretty aggressive.

Thanks

Thanks folks for the info. I sold my '99 Polaris XC 500. Now I need to find a good used MTX and I will make the move. I have looked around and I'm not having much luck.

Anybody know someone looking to sell?

I only got 250 trail miles on mine this year, but what a blast. So far I dont even want to ride my bros apex when he feels like tradin on the trail. The snow was loose so cornering was great, didnt even notice the 144. I think it corners even better than the stock 07 Phazer I ride with, because it didnt kick out in the corners. Suspention is really soft, and being 150 lbs I can bottom out pretty easily, but dont have the shocks set up all the way. I would say get one, and youll love it. I found mine for 3750 with 1009 miles, and though that was a good deal, suprised as hell to find it right here in wisconsin. havent notice the slids wearing, but I bought an extra set right away.

Good Luck finding one

3750 off trail miles, thing runs like it did the day I bought it. Always starts even 35 below. I live in the UP of MI 16 miles south of the big lake. By the way, we got 7" new overnight and totoal so far this year of 165", half way there
