Recently purchased a very slightly used model (438 km) from a neighbour and have put some 40 km on it the last couple of days after being away from sledding for some 40 years. My last snowmobile was a 1980 Yamaha Enticer 340 so am enjoying all the new-found power but came home today to notice that my right tie rod is bent as the skis were badly toed out. I live in northern BC and have requested a quote for some new ones but are they any options for purchase/repair (i.e. OEM only or is there aftermarket, and should I buy new and can the old one be straightened?).

you can straighten the one that is on there. done it on a few different sleds. you need to be able to roll it on a bench and hit it in the high spots until it rolls smoothly.

Regarding getting access to a service manual, if I sign up for VIP status is there then a PDF to download? I see I can purchase it direct from Yamaha, but would prefer to provide the money to the site.

If it's too badly mangled or don't trust it, you could get a used one.

It does have a good bend in it and the only thing I can think that I may have done is that I am parking the sled in my backyard. In order to enter/exit the yard I have to go through a standard chain link gate opening and it is a tight fit, but I do not see that putting that much torque on the rod as I appear to be barely hitting the skis. Will try and cold bend the existing rod and will either buy a used or new to act as a spare/replacement and appreciate all of the help.If it's too badly mangled or don't trust it, you could get a used one.

i have straightened the one on my vk540 3 times so far and it was staightened by po. part is obselete in this case and it bends when backing up in crusty snow from skis digging in. last time i bent it was pulling it by ski loops through/over a snow bank.

Was able to repair it today and had slight issue with removing the boot and simply got needle nose pliers under the head to the plastic friction plugs and levered them out. Watched a video on ski alignment on a Yamaha and he showed using what looked like a tack remover and as I think I have one will try that next time. Only other issue was getting the ball joint back inside the A-frame recess with the washer top and bottom and by using some packing tape was able to tape them in place, get the ball joint inside the recess, force the bolt though and then rip off the tape. Thanks for the help as it is much appreciated.
