so its that time of year. gunna do oil change from top. i've done oil change before by splitting the sled in two pieces haha, friends said i was crazy. but after reading the service manual, and about 100 posts on this website i never read anything about replacing the copper washer under the drain plugs, the o-ring behind the oil cooler, and loosning the oil pressure port between the exhaust manifolds. (not really manifolds but you know what i mean) and waiting for oil to come out. my only question is...is it necessary to replace the copper washers under the plugs, oil cooler oring, and loosening oil pressure port like the service manual says? oh and btw i'm gunna replace filter with k&n 147.

I have replaced the copper oring on tank twice.Took my chances other times. The tank one needs to be torqued to spec since tank is so thin its possible to twist the drain boss right off so a new washer is important for proper torque without leaking. The oil port and cooler removal are not necessary at all.More important I believe is screen in the tank cleaning especially at first oil change which you did already.

ya the dealer did the screen in the oil tank at first oilchange at 500 km's. quite bad. i have the service manual off your website connondalecentral, eveything is still true for my 2010 mtx since the only difference is the tunnel and track/suspension. i can get the filter off without taking the oil cooler off but it would give more room to work. thanks for the help, i'll pick up a new copper gasket since its only 11ft/lbs compared to 22 on the oil pan.

If you take the air box off there is enough room, no need to take off the oil cooler. There is enough room to get your hands in there to put the filter on and off if you just un clip and move the idle adjusting screw to the side. If you cant get it off because it is too tight or something this is that I did to loosen the filter enough to do it by hand. I tightened it by hand after.
