Just saw an Apex GT. It is an updated RX1.
No, the Rx1 is gone.

The chassis is the same.
Deltabox I and Deltabox II are not the same.

The motor is not as different as I thought it would be (down-draft throttle bodies and lightened crank).
How much do you want them to change a powerful, reliable engine? Thats what i thought...Put a turbo on it if you need more power.

I dont understand how you guys can look at the new lineup of sleds and still complain about things not being changed enough. (Well, I guess I can see why LB can)
:ORC

Whose complaining? They changed it a little. Its pretty brainless to think of the new ones as being completely different sleds. The chassis is *slightly* different, to accomodate a more-forward rider position, the engine is slightly different to make slightly more power, and the hood styling is different. Oh, and BNG.

Yamaha is just using a marketing trick to capture a few people who may have actually believed the weight crap being spewed by the other brands by putting a new "name" on it. Its STILL RX1, and they even STILL CALL IT THAT.

To me, it looks like the Apex with the old SXr headlight.
I doubt we will see that sled in North America though. There are a lot of sleds that Yamaha still makes that we dont see here in North America.
If you go to yamaha-motor.jp you will see what I mean. Yamaha still makes the Venture XL (Phazer 500 engine), SX Viper and Bravo. Id bet this new Viking will be the same.
All the more reason to move to Japan!
Hebi

Hebi you are wrong here. Yamaha still sells both the Venture XL as well as the Bravo here in Canada which is still apart of North America. It should state that they no longer make them for the US.

I was told that each country has different trade-mark laws and regulations. Yamaha wanted to use the Apex name in Japan and Europe but were having too much hassle to get permission. It was OK to use in North America where 90% of the sleds are sold so I guess someone had to make a decision.
Regarding the Apex being a model change in Japan and a new model in NA, the difference is what? Is every part new? No. Are there significant changes in the ergonomics and chassis layout, front suspension engine and body... absolutely. Is it over 60lbs lighter than the 03? Yep. WTF do they have to do paint it green?
Hebi, I understand they heard your pain, the Bravo and XL are being sold in the USA again according to my source, you probably wouldn't like sashimi even though you speak the lingo.

98srx600: I'm not sure what sled you were looking at but the Apex that I saw had the same chassis as the RX-1. They may call is something different, but the the only part number on the frame that is different is the decal that says "Deltabox II". Concerning the motor, you are arguing with me by making the same point as me! (Are you my wife?)
Face it, the new stuff is a nicely evolved version of the old stuff, and that is a good thing.

Yeah MrRestless, I believe you are right! Here in the states the manufacturers quit giving names like the Hurricane due to insurance companies raising rates "I think". Europe got to keep the cool names. Yes on the Trademarks, that's why Yamaha uses the "Warrior moniker" on Bikes, ATV's, Sleds (seems like I'm missing one), because they own it!

I did think it was cool when Cadillac named the SRX. I have met a few GM engineers that ride Yamaha's, wonder if there is a connection??? Heh Heh...

Why are they so secret about this sled (vk professional), i would understand it if it was a cool dithbanging race-sled, burt not a utilitysled, stupit cause id like to know more about this sled, when the family grows so does the need for another sled. :o|

Maybe they didnt release it here in the US because of how small the utility market is.
In the past 24 years Ive seen maybe 1 utility sled, and that was when I tried cross-country skiing.
Hebi

It depends on where you are. I see LOTS of utility sleds. Hunters, ice fishermen, etc. use them. All the ski slopes around here use them. Hell, thats a perfect example of where a 4 stroke would be MUCH better! Can you imagine what its doing to the 2 smokes when they are used in an environment where they never have a chance to warm up before riding them...people just run out, jump on, pull the rope, and immediately head up a slope? I'm not saying its great for a 4 stroke either, but not like the chances of cold-seizing a 2-smoke! Oh, and I think you would see the fish & game riding them also...right now they either ride 'Doo 70 2-ups or the V1000 4-strokes.

Jim

They haven't released it anywhere, yet they have had it on a show, doesnt look like a prototype either, my future riding will be hunting ice fishinng and towing my family around, riding offtraill, alot of people do this in sweden.
